That's kinda how you do it. Anything else would involve very expensive parts, cutting, etc.

Search is your friend. There are plenty of threads on weight reduction. The race car weighs, with a full cage and fuel, 3160

Is this for track use or just cutting weight for occasional spirited driving? I stripped my trunk, the plastic, carpet, spare tire and all are gone. Its not much, but its something I don't need and its shaves some weight.

Good question. Weight reduction is important but to be honest, pulling anything less than, say 100lbs, from the car is not going to be materially noticeable. Frankly, even that is tough to tell, until you get the car stripped.

I suggest, unless you are really planning to pull weight from the car for track use, concentrate on reducing unsprung weight. Lighter wheels, tires, brakes, ARE noticeable. The car will be faster, more responsive, more nimble. Then, after you remove as much unsprung weight as you can (or can afford), focus on weight at either end of the car (start with the front). Last, focus on the cabin.

Remove spare and jack -50lbs
Small battery -20lbs
Coilovers -10-20lbs
When you buy an intake get aluminum -5lbs
Foglight delete -3lbs
When you get an exhaust get titanium single exit -35lbs
dowpipes and test pipes/HFC will decrease weight -10lbs
when you replace rotors get two piece -20lbs
drive with half tank of gas -36lbs

Thats about 200lbs right there, 165lbs with full tank. Most of those items are things people replace anyway. When you buy a part always pay attention to weight. Don't put something that is heavier than stock on if you can help it.

With what DeweyD said. Some other suggestions are snag the STM rear crash bar. rear seat removals on race day (its easy), empty unecessary fluids. If you are going aftermarket rims look at the weight and make sure they are less than 22lbs.

Be careful with running a half tank of fuel, especially at the track. We have a fuel starvation issue in our cars on hard left hand corners.

One of the easiest forms of weight reduction I've always done (outside of getting rid of nonsense from the car) is my lightweight rim set. Admittedly it's nowhere as easy to get massive savings here on this car (like a GM where you are shifting from easily 35-40lbs per rim to 20lbs per rim). But it looks like you can still save a good ~6.6lbs per rim (for four that's a total savings of 26.4lbs).

http://www.evoxforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40612
BBS RE-Mg Forged Mg (18x8.5) 15.4 lbs
BBS RE-Mg Forged Mg (18x9.5) 16.7 lbs
BBS RE-Mg Forged Mg (18x10) 16.5 lbs
BBS RE-Mg Forged Mg (18x11) 18.5 lbs

You run your track tires on that and keep your all seasons on your stock rims.

Agree with list above. I keep mine stock looking, but have got about 100# out of it without having to rip anything out, make it unsafe, etc. You just have to build it up from smaller pieces. As others have said, without destroying the car (e.g. making a track only or unsafe vehicle), there aren't many big bang items.

- lightweight battery PC860 ~15-20lbs
- Volk 18x9.5 wheels vs MR BBS ~15lbs
- Ohlins vs stock ~20lbs
- Girodisc vs MR two piece ~20lbs
- Exhaust ~20lbs
- Al bumper supports (front, with integrated catch can) ~4lbs
- CBRD trailer hitch ~10lbs

Now the question really is - spend the money on HP, or on weight reduction? If you notice, the big dollar items above are unsprung weight, handling, or rotation items above. You'll get the most bang for the buck here. If you don't care about turning and just want to power your way to speed, the same money can buy many horsepower.

I can still get more weight off with an Al or CF driveshaft, and on raceday, I loose all the trunk junk, floormats, etc for another ~50lbs. I could go with bride seats for another 50lbs, but I like my heated and adjustable seats.

MR is still a fat pig, but 150lbs is noticeable.
