Looking at getting an evo..thoughts?

i have a 2014 lancer gt at the moment, but looking to upgrade. The evo I'm looking at is an 08 gsr with roughly 80000 miles for around 19000. Is this a fair price in anyone's opinion. I'll be looking at it later in the week. Just give me your thoughts.

Id say its a bit pricey given the miles and thats its an 08. A little higher price maybe 21-23k could get you a lot better

I would look for something that has less than 30-40k miles and closer to the 2012 year. Unless you plan to completely rebuild the engine and some other major parts. It is hard to find an evo that has high miles and has not been driven fairly hard. You could have the car checked out by a shop to see how everything looks and then make a decision. Good Luck!

08 is almost a ten year old car at this point, but not a ton has changed since. I would definitely try and get into a 2011 or newer as you get a lot of updates (new gauge cluster ('10), updated exhaust, updated steering wheel, updated diff pins, updated timing chain (later '11 models), updated front rotors (gsr only), and a few other nicities).

But if 19k is all you can afford, just make sure you get the car looked at by a shop before you buy. There is nothing worse than buying a used Evo then having to immediately dump thousands into it (ask me how I know).

The top hats were tearing off on the '08 and '10 versions, in 2011 they reinforced them so they stopped doing that.

Here is what was happening: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ken-rotor.html

The part numbers changed in 2011 and the issue went away on the newer cars

Interesting, never saw that issue on the forums, but I was a bit out of the loop for a couple years around that time.

Thanks for the link!

The steering wheel leather was smooth on '08 and '10, it went to textured wrap in 2011.

The exhaust has had two revisions through the years, one in 2011 (made it deeper and flowed a bit better) and once again I believe in 2014, though not 100% when that change happened. I know razorlab has experience with that.

Well that's a little over-dramatic.

Seems a bit high for the mileage and year. Keep searching, I'm sure you'll eventually find one that you won't have to question yourself on. G'luck!

What did you end up doing? Did you buy it?
