Hi evoheads,

I am a potential member of your community. I have been looking for a stock( as far as engine goes) evo x . Recently I came across a 2013 model year under 20k miles that the owner claims is stock. While I am in the process of buying it for under 30k, I noticed that the car failed its very first emissions test around 10k miles and then passed it two months later. Do you think he/she is lying about any engine tune or performance mods? What should I do besides doing a pre purchase inspection( i am skeptical about the effectiveness of that as well). Any help is much appreciated.

It could have been so many things that caused it to fail.


A prepurchase inspection from a well versed Evo shop is always a good idea. Give the car a thorough look over for evidence of removal/reinstall, and do a compression and leak down test.
