I considered that too, but I can see the glow from the LED in my peripheral vision (especially when it flashes like crazy) and I will eventually mount one/two gauges on the column so I didn't want to somehow get in the way of the mounts when I do. I could always move it, since I only have it on velcro.

I will probably run the power wire to the fuse box since I need to mount the led/mute button module near the steering wheel anyways...
Have you recieved that yet? Will it work? Beacuse I see that they have only round mounting brackets and ours is kinda oval shaped when I checked. If it work's im going to order it!

The auto muting feature in my 8500 has made the remote mute button all but worthless. even with a high level of alert, when it is self muted is quiet enough to easily carry a conversation over.

i like this idea the best except for having to turn it off by hand everytime. is there a way to wire it up there that it will turn off when the car shuts off or when the door opens? otherwise how long can the radar detector be left on before it kills your battery?

I'd like to change around what i said, i don't know if this will happen the same way with the passport as it did for the v1, but for some reason the pcm would give the hardwire module constant power, even when the v1 was unplugged. So it would drain my battery overnight. What i did to counter this was put a switch inline on the ground wire, so that when the switch was closed, the V1 would get ground, but when the switch was open the V1 module would not recieve ground, and therefore could not drain the battery. so now instead of having to turn off the V1, i have to flip the switch. I hope this helps, and sorry for any bad info i had in my previous post.

Awesome, mmartahus! How much of the Passport remote switch did you have to cut down to make it fit in that small blank button?

I figured as much. Great idea, I might be doing this since I already have mine wired near the same location. Thanks!

Very nice the mute button is a key when u r driving on the local roads. I never hardwire mine b/c I couldnt give up the smart cord. I might have to buy the smart cord hard wire kit and install that when I have a little more time.

^ i dont want to open up my center console again to take pics, but its really easy to wire, just feed the wires under the dash, like where the knee airbag is all the way over to beneath the AC power port, under there one wire is ground the other is power, just tap the smart cord wires into that and your good to go. getting the cable up to the radar detector is easy too, just use ur finger tips and push the wire behind the left side of the dash and up the a-pillar over to the headliner

^ so you didn't end up running it off the fuse box or using a fuse tap?

I have my Valentine one hardwired this way...plus i'm running the concealment accessory.
want to do the same with my V1, any "how to" taking out the a pillar?
