Evo X fuel system design flaws that can blow up your motor

1. Fuel Pump #1 Relay failure
2. Fuel Pressure Regulator hose pops off

Don't forget to add fuel pipe cracking :-)

What I don't get is so many people are swapping out the high beam relay when nobody really wanted the day time running lights....I say swap the DRL relay with the fuel pump relay.....

I know this has helped a lotta people find out if their relay was bad or not. But my question is, what are the symptoms of the relay going bad? The car runs lean on WOT thus bogging?

If thats the case, inter-changing the relay and going into WOT is your answer to know if its working right or not.

Please correct me if I am wrong. My cars running like crap at WOT and the afrs are totally off. Did the interchange, got a new relay - nothing works!

Purchased the new relay from SCM without even testing the old one. My X's idle is noticeably much better after the replacement. Even when the engine is cold, the idle is much stable than before. Cali weather gets as low as 50-degrees for the past week or so.

My butt-dyno felt that the car runs smoother, too. My ECU was flashed by SCM 5-months ago. After the flash, the idle, "still" dips noticeably.

Why replace without testing? Well, I was at the dealership for the fuel rail recall, I might as well purchase the relay for $27.

Thanks again for posting this info. Its unbelievable that Mitsu hasn't issued a major recall. I luckily check my plugs to find that they looked leaner than should be especially for an untuned car. Replaced the relay and the car is running much smoother and isn't throwing codes anymore. God only knows how long I was driving it like this. In fact had the engine been damaged it would have been pulling teeth to get Mitsu to cover it.

So it seems that also the new (green) relay has same problem of the old (black) relay?

Sorry I didnt clarify. My 2010 came with the old black relay. This is the one that failed. It has since been updated to the newer green version without issue.e

Ah ok... I really thought that at least 2010 models already come with the new green relay!!
It's very stupid that Mitsu not only does not make a recall for this but still continues to use that relay, even if it's clear that it can fail and create heavy damages to the engine...

Got some "new green relays" for backup and swapped some old ones out and guess what? I got the same reaction of the black relay with my new green one for the fuel pump. I only notice this problem after I use cruise control though which is strange. But, just to let people know just because its green doesn't guarantee it will work. I'll have to test my relays somehow, maybe a voltmeter or some other tool? Other than the Evo itself.....any suggestions?

Just replaced mine with a the new green relay Part#8627A011 and I'm assuming by the sound (Sounded like a Maraca) that mine was bad as well.
