trying to black out headlights

I just started to take on the project of painting my headlights. Got the headlights apart, but can't figure out how to take off the shroud piece around the hid projector. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance.

the white arrow shows the piece I am trying to remove.

Do these two bolts in the back need to come out in order for that shroud to come off??
On another forum, a member said he didn't need to.
But I am not finding another way to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did not remove it, cause if you do you are gonna have to get them aligned again. What i did is just tape up the lens very very good!!

Heres the pic where i did it.

^^^ I bought new set of clear lenses thinking it would not be too difficult to swap them out.

Agreed. Plastic covers come off/slide out of the way. Then the bolts come out. Make sure to note how far the bolt in the middle of the housing (your red arrow on the right) comes through. Then mark the plastic guide pin on the outside of the housing so that you know how far to screw it back in when you are done. That part is not picture but is to the right of your white arrow. The middle bolt is the up and down adjustment and the one on the oustide is the side to side adjustment.

Oh, those were the ones you were talking about. I thought you were talking about the black rubbery cover things.

Yeah, I think they do have to come out. Definitely the right one in that picture. I do remember having to pull fairly hard to get the aligning snap out.

No need to remove all that....Just tape up the projector and cover the oem glue with tape and paint it.

^ He bought a set of CT9A lenses he wants to swap, otherwise I agree with you. If you're only painting, get out the tape.
