Wink How to by TCCN: Fix sunroof rattle caused by aged weather strip

I have been looking everywhere for technical information on this fix, and finally found a step-by-step how-to video by Ahmed, aka The Car Care Nuts (TCCN). I'm sharing the video below.

For my 2014 Evo X, the OEM part number for the replacement sunroof glass weather strip is 5852A003.

The Evo X and Lexus ES350 are different cars. However, as shown in the video, the method to verify that it's the weather strip which causes the rattle is the same — When you tilt up the rear of the sunroof glass, the rattle goes away. If not, then something else is causing the rattle, and the method below is likely not sufficient to stop the rattle. At last, clean the sunroof strip, roof, and rail thoroughly, so to help sit the glass strip properly in place, which also stops any remaining rattle.

So my body shop has the new OEM weather strip 5852A003 installed for me. The old weather strip has lost elasticity.

Interestingly, unlike Toyota/Lexus, the Mitsubishi's OEM sunroof weather strip 5852A003 is made of heat-shrink rubber. My body shop had the weather strip sitting under the sun for an entire sunny afternoon, before it shrank to size. They advised me that, after taking the Evo X back, let the sunroof exposed for one more afternoon in a sunny day, in order to help it sit properly in place. And I did.

My Evo X's sunroof rattle has now gone most of the time for most of the driving conditions, except occasionally during engine idle in a cold and dry day. I may request some further diagnosis and repair of this faint rattling noise if it persists.

^Close-in shot of the 10-years-old Evo X sunroof weather strip. It has tears and has lose elasticity.

^Mitsubishi OEM 5852A003, which appears to be made of heat-shrink rubber. It took an entire sunny afternoon for it to shrink into the proper size under the sun.

^New OEM sunroof weather strip installed on the Evo X. Adjusting the angle and height for it to sit flat, while it was a daunting task for an amateur like me, was but a breeze in the hands of an experienced auto body shop specialist.
