Boosted, the picture you have posted is unfair. If you want to correct it, why don't you say what the cause for the rim failure was? Since I suspect you won't, it was a side impact, the speed of which is unknown. Any alloy rim would fail under those conditions, even Rays. What is important to realize all rims have to meet Japenese spec's and Rota's are no exception. In addition, what manufacturers do when they produce forged wheels is make them as light as possible and still maintain the spec. So, yes, they are lighter but are they prone to cracking when going through potholes i.e., as a DD. In principal they are the same strength since Rota's, a caste wheel, and Rays meet the same spec. The only way Rays would be stronger is if they weighed the same as the cast wheels. However, this does not occur for the forging process is only used to create a lighter wheel of similar strength to a cast wheel.
Finally, it is true, the Grids are copying the design of the TE's but what would you rather pay $1K or $3K for rims that weigh slightly less but are no stronger?
This discussion has gone on before in other threads so these points are repeats but ... when I saw your picture, I could not control myself.
Later, Ken
