My Matte/Flat black vinyl Evo X!!! (new pics on first page)
so this guy in socal with a bmw 335 decided to vinyl his car... i liked the way it looked and decided to try it out myself...
i don't think I'm the first matte black evo x, but i think I'm the first matte black vinyl evo x
i did mine for about the 3rd of the price of the bmw (if youve seen the thread on socalevo)... i bought the vinyl, i did some parts myself, and the rest i just had a local vehicle wrap place do.
i must say, it was way harder than i thought it would be (seeing other people on the net doing it made it look fairly easy)
but i learned some things along the way and am pretty confident i can do most of a car now, aside from some of the harder curves and stuff.
all in all it was a good experience.
I'm sure bmw is more flawless than mine, there are bits and pieces that aren't perfect (dirt under the vinyl, small creases, chips, etc...) and i think we used different vinyls... but again, i learned a lot, paid less, and I'm glad i gave it a shot.
ALL DONE (for now) PICS!!!
when it all started:
now all i need is some gun metallic volk te37's to finish it off.
hope you like it, I'm sure there are gonna be haters, but that comes with the territory.
ill take more pics later, it was getting dark and my camera isnt great...
also ive decided to go wingless now and just have the little carbon fiber lip, but i have the original trunk and wing vinyl'd also, so i can switch between the two as i so desire.
if you have any questions please feel free to ask me.
more pics added:
new pic, vortex generator and side skirts
teaser pic of the new shoes (better ones coming soon):

not a fan of black on black (had that on my 8) and black out tails in socal cause too much trouble cause its just another reason to get the cops to pull you over. wish there was a tail more like the evo 7 for the x.
the use of vinyl is way better. a) it was cheaper than paint. b) when im done or want to sell, i just peal it off. c) it protects my original paint, so it will look great when im done with the matte look.

^cool. well, you certainly did a nice job with the vinyl overlay. I think the matte color looks nice with the lines of the car...kind of accents them and makes them pop a little more. Like you can see the bulge of the fenders more now than you can with a gloss paint at the same angle. its a neat effect

Boxerguy56 - thank you much. it was way harder than i thought it would be, but now i just have another skill and some more knowledge. i agree that it makes things pop more, and i think it will look a ton better with some rims.
only problem i have with it is finger prints. i have a feeling im gonna be washing my car a whole lot more than i used to.

fr3sh504 - i agree... its missing rims! if i had better pics youd see the carbon fiber hood scoop and the carbon fiber rear lip. i think those add to it. i debated a carbon fiber front lip, but i think it hangs too low for my tastes. but ill put back on the original trunk and take pics with that too.
i just need to get some pieces first.
