Trick escort smartcord

I got a passport 8500 X50 for my birthday and was looking online for ways to install it. People mentioned locating the smartcord controller in one of the faux buttons next to the ASC button over the minifuse bay and here is the results. Here are a few pictures, hope you enjoy. I have a brief installtion thing in the how to section as well if you want to see how it was done.

Looking good. I use a wide rear mirror with a little modification to try and hide the radar detector itself but I love your mod. A+

yea i could've hidden it better, but that would block the rear detector so this gives me the best compromise really. It's out of the way and next to the mirror so it's a "natural" viewing point and i get the rear detection.

The 8500 is great, wish it had the 9500's gps capability to quiet it on false radar and remember so it's silent the next time you drive by the same spot. But it works great and was an awesome birthday present so I can't complain. I used it on a recent road trip and I was aware of any radar ahead long before i saw it. Fortunately none of them were cops, just the signs telling you your speed. And the new location of the smartcord's mute was very handy since it's a fingertip away.

I had the x50 too, works great. Saved me a lot, but many closecalls due to laser radars. The false alarms are very minimal too.

Wondering if anyone using the newer models, thats hella expensive but has cool features with the speed cam locations and a few other goodies. I think its the 9500IX

Yes i own the 9500 and its great!!

I came from a 8500 x50 and sold it for the 9500 , the 9500 picks up the same but just blocks out false alarms

I would hate the Pop Alert on my 8500 because i always had it in full volume and it would scare the **** out of me

just the RD's knowledge of where potential false radar might be from traffic lights etc so it stays quiet until a different frequency/band or radar is used. it's really useful, on my daily commute to work i wish i had it for 3 lights and just from everyday driving there's a couple spots i drive by a lot where it could be useful but it's only available on the more expensive 9500's maybe some of their even more expensive units not sure.

Very nice install. Can't say the same for the rear view mirror though. Windex FTW.
