STM's Number Ten (2011 WW SSL)
#286
Finally got some seat time! Went to our local 1/4 mile Empire Dragway with a bunch of the STM crew. All in all a great night! Ricer made a few passes (too cold for Ricer to be running though, we are going back Sunday for her!) Justin in his VIII RS ran a 11.3@122 with his PTE 5557 STM turbo kit, Brandon got his best time in his VIII with a 10.4 @ 137 on the FP Red and Ryan Jenk's Evo broke some more records making it the quickest and fastest stock motor / stock turbo Evo VIII. Period. 10.16@131.5. Best trap of 132.7mph!
We had a couple STM 2g's representing, I swear I had almost forsaken my love of Evo's following Cory's blacked-out 96 "Eviltsi" and Eddie's bad ***, white GSX with the front-facing STM turbo kit. They both sounded, looked, smelled and FELT amazing! Rumbling MY car! Ron's red GST was spinning like crazy on street tires, but running 93mph in the 1/8... not bad! Eddie needs some slicks. Talk about 4 wheel spin on the street. SO AWESOME. And it shoots flames.
I had a slow start to the night. First pass I'm lined up with a Mustang (please don't lose to this Mustang!) He's got his helmet on, I got my Suomy with the nekked mermaid. We launch, I hit second and was pulling, I had him... and missed third. Mother FU^%&*R!!
Back in the staging lines, I'm doing the 2-3 shift. I got this. Don't miss any gears. Now I got this old-school white Camaro with Hoosiers in the rear next to me. It's kinda loud... but he doesn't have a helmet. I got this. I'm not missing third.
First gear, clutch down, revving to 4,500.... banged second, smoked this guy... went for the next gear and slammed it in... to... FIRST! Stomped the clutch pedal and saw the rpm's hit 8,500. Mother FU^%&*R!! I wait, listen for the 4B11 guts to hit the pavement... but nothing. Sounds good, feels good. Whew. Lucky girl. 8,500 isn't that bad, but still. Lets not do that again!
Lesson learned. If you want that gear bad enough... you're gonna get it!
The rest of the passes went well. I need to launch harder and bang second faster. But I beat the rest of the cars I raced that night! One was a Honda wagon... One was a new G8 and I forget the other. I'm happy with a 12.5 @ 111. I actually called that exact time earlier in the day!

We have some brand new products coming in for the X to test, so keep watching! I'll get good photos and dyno/track results.
I had a great time in the X. It's an amazing car. I genuinely look forward to the next batch of mods!

Good job! I had that happen once where I went into 3rd on accident instead of 5th once and my god that is easily the worst feeling in the WORLD!
Nice runs too, I bet that car has a quicker time in it! I went 7.9@88 at our local 1/8th mile(don't have a 1/4). Either way nice driving, and strong trap speed!

4g63 is a 20+ year old motor. 20+ years of research, 20+ years of study, 20+ years of error and perfection. 4b11t is 3 almost 4 years old, your asking a baby to run when its just learning to walk. Hold on there girl, soon enough these motors will shine. we always work ourselves around what we got. Nissan R35 motors won't be better than R34 for while, but for the exact same reason. Great looking car BTW, keep it up.

you have a point but you have to look at the new advancements and the technology to make the older versions better were in mind when they made the newer engines. the 4g63 never came stock with 300tq (dont remember if the X has 300hp) and if i remember correctly the R35's engine surpasses the R34 hp/tq as well. yes its a newer engine but i believe the research was done. i think now we're at the point were guys like STM, Bushcur, MAP and so on are unlocking the rest of the potential. truthfully the only thing that worries me is the aluminum block.
i love my 4g63 and its history but the 4b11 is proving itself. not to mention that the 4b11 is pushing around a heavier car too.
Shawna, good luck with the rest of your goals! your on the right track! cant wait to see more results.

Yes I agree, but I also think these company's not only look and relay on power. The evo x is more powerful than older models but it's also heavier making it inferior in certain Areas like u mentioned, but along the way we learn to work our selves around that . In general I think this conversation will eventually lead to engineers being persuade and involved with economist and entrepreneurs. They can only make it so reliable cuz why would they even think of making a better one if they have already made one durable. They would be harming them selves. Specially them taking in consideration our consumer society.

Thanks a ton guys! I know the racing year is getting short here in NY, but hopefully we can get some more mods finished and hit the track well into November!
The old vs new debate is never ending. I waged the same battle with DSM vs Evo when I first switched over from my GSX to VIII. Two totally different cars, yet still very much the same, and still up in the air here from VIII to X.
Its not fair to compare them against each other. I have to compare apples to apples. Where's that Fastest stock turbo X list anyhow?
So, this just came in.
Use your imagination...
"The STM Aluminum Exhaust Flange is a 1/2" thick, 3" 2-bolt design, 6061 aluminum machined right here in Rochester, NY."

Here is what evoM has:
1. Slow98teg / 08/31/2011 / 2008 GSR / I/TP/E/3port, Street tuned on E85, 12.296
2. Sheeley91 / 06/28/2011 / 2010 MR / Bolt ons, Tuned by Kaizen Performance, Rob Baker. 12.475
3. Darksun280 /3-12-11 / E-spec / EvoX /Test pipe, Uicp, 290 whp @ 20 psi, 3828 race weight/ 12.9
Evoxforums has a few faster I know for sure but they don't list stock turbo vs. aftermarket so not sure.
I know extremeboost went like 11.9 on bolt on's and 93 octane untuned.
On E-85 with some weight reduction mid 11's seem feasible.
It's for the taking, most of us moved past stock turbos quickly and are struggling through building motors lol
