My question is: Does a lack of TPMS sensors cause the car to go into any kind of limp or limiting mode?

Otherwise, how are you supposed to put track wheels on a car without having your paired sensors in them?

That's because the BMW TPMS is "indirect" and has "auto relearn" capability.

Mitsubishi uses a "direct" TPMS with no auto relearn capability.

I think I more or less decided to keep the TPMS in my stocks for winter. Winter is longer here in Indiana than summer! hahaha

I did the same thing, I figured air pressure in my winter tires will fluctuate more (due to temperature, leaking, etc) than my summers.

Or screw the TPMS and have the US mandate run flats, we'd save huge by dropping the TPMS and going with run flats!

On my winter wheels and tires I did not run the TPMS. It's a little annoying at first, but you get used to it very quickly. Now that I have my summer (stock) wheels back on, it's not even really a big deal having the TPMS. I'd say if you can swap them, go ahead. If not, save your money on new sensors and the programming.

All because Ford Explorer owners can't be bothered to check their air pressures occasionally...

It was more than that.

Sub par tires from Firestone made by inexperienced scab workers, and Fords recommended tire pressure for those year Explorers was too low...together directly linked to 173 deaths.

That and the fact that an estimated 60% of U.S. drivers are operating their vehicles with under-inflated tires.

Plenty of blame to go around as to why in 2008 the government made TPMS for U.S. cars mandatory.

I think most of the blame is on lazy, inattentive drivers who think cars magically maintain themselves.

You're most likely right.

I'm going to make a prediction here...

As more & more new cars (2008+) start showing up in tire shops across the U.S. and Canada, I bet in the future reprogramming of TPMS will be offered there instead of going to the dealership.

absolutely not cause any problem , if you do not have a TPMS.
