I think the stretched tire ideas rank up there as slightly worse than MAD CAMBER types.

Lets wear down the inside of our tires in just 2,000 highway miles! We can always rotate them for 2,000 more before we buy a new set to do it all over again!

mini cooper guys strech 205's on 8 1/2 rims all the time. they look fine. 2"= about 40mm

Geez I wasn't expecting this many mixed reviews. I am ready to buy the wheels and now I found out tire rack sells a fender roller so now I just have to crunch the numbers.

2" is actually 50.8 mm which seems quite significant info to me.

Do not do this. You are stressing the tire sidewall to the point of breaking the bead with the rim. Just because some VW people do it does not make it right or cool.

If you want to follow the latest, greatest trend, then absolutely. If you don't want to look like a 16-year old kid in a VW then buy 285's.

Wide wheels are for wide tires...just sayin'...
