Still no documented fitments of 17" wheels on the Evo X.

They might fit with about zero clearance between the front calipers.

Also may want to consider something wider than 255 for track a setup.

They won't fit. You need more than a whisper of clearance.

There is one set of wheels that was rumored to work but no one ever found out what they were and it was all rumors.

You can fit them no problem if you go with a mini brake kit tho..

You are probably thinking of the eastern European dude who put 17x7 Compomotive wheels on an X without modification. That would make sense for snowtires, but not much else. Plus, I can not find these wheels for sale anywhere.

Until today, that was the only 17" wheel I'd heard of that would even go on over the OE brakes.

Yep.. Those were the ones. I couldn't remember what they were.. Thanks.

And yea, I don't really know what the point of it would be either besides snow tires like you mentioned..

Racing on snow, gravel, and/or dirt - which is what a lot of eastern Europeans do with their Evos - only requires a 7"-wide wheel, since Evo Xs generally run those events on 205s +/- 10. If you don't want to go through the hassle of swapping calipers and rotors when you switch from low-grip situations to tarmac, then getting 17x7s to fit over the OE brakes is a very good move. Yes, you'll have serious difficulty finding real gravel tires in, say, 205/55/17, but the extra 1/2" of sidewall is still worth the effort.

(Note: if you're now saying to yourself "self, this guy is suffering from a serious amount of cognitive dissonance and will go to any extreme to justify the time and effort he put into getting small wheels to fit his car..." then all I can say in response is "you had a really good Intro Psych teacher, because that's exactly the correct use of the term 'cognitive dissonance'.")

Not an Evo X with OE brakes, you didn't.

ps. this is EXACTLY the sort of post - yours, not mine - that makes the internet so much less useful than it could be
