How to best remove wheel weights
Hello,
at some point in the near future I'll have to replace tires on my MR, but I'm dreading it, as I know that the factory hammered-on wheel weights have scuffed the finish of those nice BBS wheels. I'd like to remove the wheel weights myself before bringing them to the shop. Can any of you recommend the best way to remove those weights in order to keep the damage to the wheels' paint to a minimum? Is there a special tool the shops use that i may be able to buy and maybe coat it with a rubberized lining?
Thank you.

Are you talking about those little weights they put in behind/inside the rim when they balance the wheel?
I know for the fact they are double sided on there lol...

Well, no offense to tire shops or their techs, but i believe that if you ever want to get something done right, you have to do it yourself. I don't expect tire shop technicians to take their sweet time to carefully remove the wheel weights from the outside lip of the rims, making sure they don't further damage the finish, which by the way is very hard to match with touch-up paint, since it's a two-stage paint process.

Most likely the worst of the damage has been done (from when the factory hammered them on). Not sure how to get them off easily, but I know where you're coming from as far as wanting to do it yourself. Make sure to ask them to use tape-on wheel weights instead of the clip-ons when you get your new tires. I forgot to even think about it

Hrmm. Wheel weights are used to balance the wheel so when your driving at 60mph it doesn't feel like your wheel is going to fall off or your in a vibration chair designed to remove teeth, get it? got it? good.
