Stock Yoko Advans Getting Noisier???

I wasn't planning on changing my stock Yokohama Advans A13 until winter came (I swap to winter tires at that time...). They still have good amount of tread, and solid rain traction.

But I could swear that my tires have gotten much noisier in the last month. I can literally hear them rolling at low speeds, and they howl more than ever at high speeds.

I know high road-noise is a common problem with this tire. So I've accepted that at normal. But is it also common for that noise to get much worse as the tires get more miles?

Maybe I'll be swapping out sooner rather than later.

The noise gets worse as the tread wears down. The A13s get really loud.

Most tires will get louder as they wear down.

of course performance tires get loud...maybe you should get an aftermarket exhaust.

it looks like you've had a few performance cars in the past, surely you've had performance tires before too

Yes - I've gone through about 7 sets of Performance Summer on several of my past cars. These Yoko Advans are the only ones I've owned that grow louder way before the end of their service-life... which is why I ask...

Continental ExtremeContract DWs - much quieter....

So I traded out the stock Advans for Continental ExtremeContact DWs this week. The tire-swap made a huge difference in noise-reduction and the car is soooo much quieter now.

* 76dbA down to 72dbA at 55mph in 5th (-4dbA drop)

But I see a bigger drop in the dbC levels...

96dbC down to 91dbC (-5dbC drop)

The C-weighting is flat across the spectrum - so the new Continentals have removed a lot of low-frequency tire and road noise -- basically the "drone" of the rolling Advans has been minimized.

(I did these before/after sound comparisons on the same stretch of roadunder similar outside temps. Same steady speed (55mph))

mine have actually cracked in the grooves (looks like dryrot), but when taken to a advan dealer they said that it is common for these tires.
