Jay Leno talks about Tire Chamber wear on Evo X

Check it out. Tires with built in chamber. I hope the market catch on real fast because I'm tired of fast wearing tires due to -2 and -3 chamber I'm rolling on.

I think its a great idea, but everything the driver said at the end seemed to compliment the evo more than the tires.

it's an old idea. Nitto's NEO GEN tires were designed to wear more evenly on lowered vehicles with negative camber, and were advertised as such. those tires have been out for 7 years or so now. I went through a few sets of those on my honda accord, and I've got a set on my gf's TSX right now. really good tires for the money, but they aren't sticky enough for me. I currently run Nitto NT05's and they seem to do well with the 2 degrees of negative camber I run up front, and the 1 degree I run on the rear. they seem to wear pretty evenly. a lot better than the RT-615's did.

I'd be curious to hear if the test driver had driven an X with stock tires as a benchmark.

Either way, it's an interesting idea. Though I'm still skeptical for some reason.

the thing that makes no sense about this whole review is that the point is that the tires wear evenly. they need to show some tires with some miles on them to verify that they actually do what they claim to do. they market the tires for their wear characteristics, but then show a test of the handling, and ride? that's like saying someone is a great speller, then having them solve an algebra equation to demostrate it.

Doesn't this just offset the one of the reasons why to run more negative camber? When going into the turn the tire will have less contact patch as it rotates from the suspension compressing.

I get that it will allow the tires to wear well for regular driving or if you need the camber to keep from rubbing but to market it as better for traction seems kind of odd.

there might be a lot of technology, research development, etc. that went into the structure of the cambered tire to account for better traction in turns vs. a normal tire with cambered wheels, stuff that took a long time to develop.

if it was as simple as 'build a tire with a slightly smaller diameter on the inside', i'm sure it would have been done a long time ago and more companies would have adopted it.

If you want built in camber just run 0* all the way around then swap the tires side to side...

lol

doesnt this defeats the purpose of running camber and increases mpg (not that anyone cares).

if we wanted this wouldn't we just run zero camber? we run negative camber for the increases in cornering ability

I was thinking the same...

Any types of preformance vehicle already has at least -1 camber as manufacture specification..
