Stock rubber on 9.5" rim
It is my understanding that the stock rubber can be mounted on a 9.5" rim without any MAJOR issue.
Is this assumption correct and if so, what are the disadvantages of doin so. The main advantage I see in not having to buy new rubber with new 9.5" wide rims.
Thanks.

First big disadvantage is that the tire wont be able to provide any lip protection on your rim. The rim will stick out further than the tire.
you may have the option of selling your stock tires if they are low milage and using the money to get better summer tires.

1. Yes they will fit as many have done it.
2. The rim will stick out past the tire as fugifighter stated, but it is NOT that bad at all.
It's not VW "Stretched" it is very minimal.
If you don't have the cash to buy new tires the stock 245's will do just fine on a 9.5inch wheel.

it works
I'm lowered on eibach's with a +15 offset which is pretty aggressive and I rub under aggressive cornering

it will work just fine...according to the Advan A13C specs, the tire is approved from any widths 8 inch to 9.5 inch
and yes, the main dis advantage is rim lip protection...you can curb it very easily...and on a more severe case, dent the lip of the rim
a vdub tire stretch is something along the lines of 215/40/18 on 18x10.5

What's with those VW guys anyways, saw one of those turbo models lowered with what looked like -4* camber front and rear on what looked like 315mm wide tires on super wide wheels since they were stretched on the rims quite a bit. When he got off the expressway it appeared he had problems keeping it straight when under braking. Give the dark mirror tint I doubt he road races the car since that whole thing about being able see out your windows is really helpfull.
As for using stock tires on 9.5" wheels it will work fine, just be a 1/2" stretched on the sidewall on each side which is pretty minimal. I saw how it looks on one of my friend's Evo 9 with wheels that an Evo X owner sold them. The fact that the tire isn't as wide lets it fit inside the wheel wells easier but he still is going to work the fenders a bit with a fender roller.

You can safely mount your OEM 245/40/18's on an aftermarket 18x9.5 wheel. As others mentioned, you will have a slight stretch with this setup. Here's an example of the OEM tires on our 18x9.5 +20 Rota Grid's
