Auto x q about tires. driving to and from an event.

Noob Auto x Question about tires...

As everyone who owns an evo know's.. our trunk is tiny.. soo carrying a set of Hoosiers or auto x tires to an event seems pretty impossible.. I drive 150km to and another 150km from auto x events in the summer.. what my question is.. Can i drive my car with a set of A6's on my car to and from an event.. It says on the tire rack site that they are not intended for highway use.. but how else can i bring auto x rubber to the event?

I'm debating buying either A6's or just going back to Advan stockers.. the thing is the A6's are like 350$ cheaper.

any input?

thx

I adore driving to and from events on Rs, but it shortens their life a lot, especially with an autocross (toe-out) alignment. With zero toe all around, you won't do too much damage - it's really just one long heat-cycle - but it will still be an event's-worth of extra wear each way. I only go that far on Rs at the end of the season, when the tires are dead anyway.

Get some tire bags from Tire Rack or just use garbage bags. You can get 4 wheels in the car.

Too expensive to waste driving on the street. I ran Hoosiers for one event last season. I also have tiretotes and will transport to events.

You can get 4 245's right across the back seat neatly. If you're running wider 3 in the back and one in the trunk.

I'll gladly drive 30-40 miles on them, but I certainly wouldn't drive 75+ miles on R tires.

I did drive my Sky on M/T ET Streets almost 150 miles round trip to the drag strip (rears only), but I won't make a habit of it.

The other option is to get R6s, instead of A6s. Not as grippy, of course, but much less of a problem driving to and from events. Supposedly the medium-compound (C51) 'Kooks are similar to R6s in this regard. Never tried them, myself, but the C71s are good.

you don't have to get stockers, you can get dunlop starspecs and they're cheaper than stock advan and better and last longer

but if you get some bags for the A6's you can put a tire or 2 (depending on size) in the trunk and the rest in the back seat...

Oh, my, yes. If you get another set of streets, StarSpecs or R-S3s. No more Yokos. Gag.

you can actually fit 4 285s across the back seat.

sweet thanks guys, i'll have a look at the starspecs. and or r6's for auto x i usualy put a 3foot by 2foot bin in the back seat.. it holds chairs, picnic lunch , tools , compresser etc etc.. i'd have to down size if i put the tires in the back seats.. it is an option though.. with the auto x and road course events that i do.. i'm sure i dont need a6's but for the price they seem like a sweet deal as compared to the advan stockers..

i'll keep looking

thx

In that case, you might want to think about a hidden hitch and a small trailer. Sounds like your warranty is already shot and you can tow small trailers with an Evo no problem.
