Blizzaks WS60 with Coilovers

Hey all,

Just curious if anyone else on the forums have Blizzaks WS60 mounted on their stockers with coilovers? If so, do you guys experience a lot of bounciness from the car? I'm running HKS Hipermax III coilovers, aligned and corner balanced and lately, my car has been really bouncy, enough to make me consider putting my summer set-up back on LOL. This is my second season with the Blizzaks. I've check tire pressures and they are all good. Even tried adjusting the dampening on the coilovers but it makes no difference. Is this normal for a car running coilovers with a soft sidewall tire?

Blizzaks have a moderately stiff sidewall for a snowtire (which is part of why rallycrossers like them so much), so I doubt that they're the problem. Much more likely is that it's the not-so-great coilovers that you have are now blown, especially if the adjusters do nothing.

Hmm, I read numerous reviews of the WS60's and they all said it has a very soft sidewall and compound?

Are you on coilovers too or stock springs?

Try running higher tire pressure. My sister has snow tires on her sti and it got much better when she bumped the tires to 38 psi. But she has general something or other not blizzaks

Thanks but I actually tried that but no luck. They were actually sitting at 31PSI all around when I checked them and pumped them up to 38~40PSI.

I think it's a combination of the tires and the suspension. I will swap my summer set-up on this weekend and see if the bouncing still occurs. In case anyone is interested, my summer set-up are 19X10.5 275/30/19 Yokohama S.Drives.

Maybe the WS60s are softer, but a WS50 is pretty stiff for a snow tire. It's not R-S3 or StarSpec stiff, of course, as it is a snow tire, but it's also not a Graspic, either.

In any event, you're not going to get much bounciness from a tire, no matter what it is. Yes, the damping ratio of a tire is quite low (at least when compared to the springs & shocks), but the natural frequency of tires is so high that it doesn't really contribute to what most people mean by "bounciness."

Highly technical point, BFF, but raising the pressure actually lowers the damping ratio of a tire, so pumped up tires actually bounce more, albeit at a rather high frequency (see above).
