i bought kw clubsports and want to run stock top hats...kw said that i was missing a piece that goes in between the stock top hat and the top of the coilover.

Here is a picture of the top hat i removed...what am i missing? if anything? does something slot inside of that thrust bearing?

 

08 evo x had a cylinder that goes inside the bearing but the 2010 doesn't have it. you can install it without the cylinder.

 

My only problem is that it has so much play...at least 1/4" when you push it around. That's normal?

 

You need a spacer that fills the gap. You should ask KW if they fit stock top hats with all oem parts. If they do look at an exploded view of the shocks and order what you are missing. I had to have custom spacers made to fit stock top hats to my RS&SP front shocks. I drive a 2010 and my top mounts looked like yours and I didn't have any other parts up there. I'm curious to know if the 08s have another part on the top mount. Let us know what you find out.

 

Thing is that this suspension is from an 08 Evox. So I don't see this spacer anyone speaks of.

If someone with kw v3s, clubsports can chime in and show me pics of their install. A picture of their stock top hat to coilovers. Would be greatly appreciated.

When I spoke to kw, he said stock top hats and their hardware would be a direct swap.

 

That has to have a cylinder with rubber to make it fit. You have that on your oem struts right?
Check you oem suspension..it should be there

I have an 08 and you have 2010..you might not have it...install them it might not move since ot will only go one place once you tighten up everything

 

You could always have the spacer machined. Any machine shop will be capable.

 

id rather just go stock route as these are just for dd and dont want noise. I had bcs and got tired of clunking and unusual noises coming from coils.

anyways, i got my friends 08 stock strut and top hat apart that im using for my kw's...

usa just come with special cylinder rubber pieces? any pics of this part im "missing"? lol

 

They'll work without them but will bind and pop in slow turns in the parking lot. Get a better top hat / camber plate or have the piece made.

 

are the vorshlag ones good? i heard everyone recommending them. They have a pillowball setep rather than metal to metal correct?

 

Yes, and I use KMAC, which are also good. Truth is, since you are going to the trouble of installing such a good coilover spending the time and money to get a good plate now is an extremely smart idea.
