Question "No fat girls or I will rub"

Ok, so now that I am looking at the tires on my car after putting on the suspension my tires, in the rear especially, are only 1" from the wheel well.

Now at first I thought "no big deal, I will just roll the fender, or cut it and add a flare." But then I saw that the metal between the rear passenger door and the wheel well is like only 2" (less maybe)

So... how do you guys deal with wide offset wheels/tires and rubbing?

Is it worth the body work?

My spring rates are 900# / 800# so the car wont rub often, but on big dips or speed bumps its gets scary...

for evo x owners here is some info -

my wheels are +15 offset18x9.5
with 275 tires

thats a lot of tire for that wheel. I rolled my rears and im good for now. btw you only need to roll the top section of the fenders as thats the only real section where the tire would come in contact with it

Just get a fender rolling tool (rent one) and a heat gun and roll those fenders. You should also add some camber if you haven't already to help with the clearance.

Depending on the wheel and the tire, I would run either 265 or even 255 tires on a 9.5" wheel. 275 is way wider than any 9.5" wheel.

Here I was thinking that - based on the thread title - I was about to read an admission from the OP that he is uncontrollably attracted to women with high BMIs - so much so that he can't help but pleasure himself whenever he meets one - but then it turns out to be just another "will these tires and wheels fit?" thread. Booo.

HAHAHAAH

But no, I KNOW the tires barely fit :P

I just wanted to know how hard it was to roll evo x fenders.

And the evo x has trailing arm links, so when the tire goes up - it moves a bit forward (towards the passenger door) So i was not sure how far down i needed to roll the fender

Note that those links are for anti-lift/anti-dive, so they angle down at static ride height. Thus, they first push the wheel back and then pull it foward as the suspension is compressed. If you'd like to think of the link as pumping forward and back, forward and back, as the high-BMI lady gets in and out your car, knock yourself out. Everyone needs love.

Rolling the rears will easily fix that especially with that spring rate. I run a wide 275 (Star Spec) and 18x9.5 +15's with very minor rub on huge dips with only a -1 camber but a much lower spring rate 5.3kg.

That is an incorrect statement. Tons of people run 275's on Evo X with a 9.5. 255 would be stretched for sure over a 9.5 and the 265's don't come in the right aspect ratios to maintain the same overall diameter as the stock tire. a 265/35 is a lot shorter tire overall than stock size, the 275/35 is almost identical.

well i can tell you the 275's are the rubbing factor. You're going to need to have a bit of stretch so that they can clear.

I'll b putting/keeping my 255s on my next 10/10.5" wheels

That's exactly what I was expecting to find in this thread! So disappointed. Get properly sized tires or roll your fenders. Problem solved. Yawn.

Yeah, this is correct. I was running the 255 and they were stretched (functional but a bit thin)

I disagree too. A 275 sits just fine on a 9.5" rim, I'd rather have it on a 10" or even 10.5" to stretch it if it were a track setup especially on a X with much more wheel well. But the OP will be fine. It's probably more the low offset.

As for the 1" clearance, that's about 3/4" more than I've got. But I did roll my rears...

You don't need a stretch to clear you just need more camber or stiffer spring rates if you're lower than 1.5" lower than stock. A 255 on a 10.5 is just stupid unless you only want the look of a stretched tire. You're losing performance running something like that and if you wanted to run a 255 you could have run that on a 8.5" wheel and saved a ton of weight over a 10.5".
