Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I have the same wheels as the OP. Which are Wedssport SA-55M 18x9 +20 BBM.
I have run two sets of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's in 255/35 on the car which is lowered
I forget the exact settings so please forgive me:the front bumper is 4" off the ground and the rear is about 6" off the ground. IIRC its a 1.0-1.5" drop in the front and a little less in the back on BC Racing BR series Coilovers.
I want to go to PS2 or PSS 265-35 for two reasons. The first is the lip of my rim surpasses my tires by a few mm. I do not like the look of this, but there is no stretching and other then that the tire fits good. The second reason would be that my Speedometer is out by more than 3% and it is bothersome, but not the end of the world.
Now from Tirerack specs and this thread I see that the the 10mm jump from 255 to 265 is from 9.5" to 10.1 Tread width for the PSS's. The PS2 @ 265/35 are even larger @ 10.5". I cannot find the tread width very easily for the PS2 255/35, and they are harder to come by in a non runflat version. Tire rack doesn't even seem to sell them any more.
So before I came across this thread I was 99% sure I was going to go from 255/35 to 265/35 for the two reason stated above. I am not going to buy the same 255/35 PS2's I have been buying because they are harder to come by and I don't like that the lip on my Wheel sticks out a few MM past the tire and offers it no protection (although I don't want it bubbled over the side either and providing a reduced contact patch as a result of too much tire over the rim.
Now it looks like I will have to move to a different brand since Michelin's treadswidth at 265 is very large as opposed to their thread width at 255 which in my opinion is relatively narrow for a 9" rim.
I also have a fair bit of room at my front fenders and obviously slightly less on my rear fenders, but my rears sit higher off the wheels and the suspension is fairly stiff.
Any opinions, recommendations or abuse would be appreciated.
