Evo x slicks all four or just the front?

Hey guys i just curved the **** out of my passenger side rims, and since I needed tires i got 2 options, go with a whole new set of rims and tires maybe some rpf1,or stick with my xxr 527 , buy two new ones and just get 2 slick for the messed up ones and leave them for my autox days. To me it sounds ridiculous to just get 2 slicks on an awd car but hear me out , I went to my first and only auto x event(last of the season) and this guy was running on an evox , he got there and swap the 2 front wheels with exact rims but slicks and left the rears as they were?.. This guys seems to know his **** when it comes to auto x and told me that he was racing for a couple of years..any recommendations? What do you guys think there's like a $1000 difference if not more which I much rathers trow on something else thx in advance

If you hate your car and love spending money I say go for it. Search about running mismatched tires and rims on here and what it does to your differentials on an Evo.

This AutoX “guy” had to be running Autocross tires like Hoosiers A6s already in all 4 corners, they look like slick tires. He was probably switching to a new/old set of tires up front, maybe testing something else; who knows. There is no way that an experienced Autoxer told you to do that…

I really hope that you are talking about your AutoX only set up, especially since the winter/ snow is almost here. Either way this is a horrible idea…some A6s up front and all season on the rear? Also running those tires will place you in a different class if you are running with the SCCA.

If you want to AutoX with these “slick” tires you will need a new set of wheels (4) and (4) tires. You will want to swap tires at the event because…just read about those tires.

Autocrossing you want the all four tires to have the same grip for predictable handling. Drag racing it is ok to run slicks on the drive axle and non grippy tires on the non drive axle. But in the case of AWD you are screwed and need to double it…lol
