Dealership pricing for brake job
Hello all,
The dealership quoted me $3,000 for a rotor and pad replacement. Obviously, i do not plan to pay this, but here is my question. Not sure what pads or rotors i plan to purchase, but when i do, would you trust a Midas or equivalent to do the labor on this job. I hear a rotor and pad replacement is very easy to do on an Evo. I myself do not have the resources to do this job, but in the interest of saving money will Midas do the job?
Thanks,
Adam

You have an EVO X with BREMBOS. The easiest pads to replace since forever.
That being said, I wouldn't trust Midas with a car.
If you can't get the jackstands and tools to do it, find a local EVO shop. Tops with all you listed from a shop you would be looking at around a grand or so. 3k is rape.

If you can find the time then this is definitely a job that you can do yourself. Resources can be found at any local car parts store. Harbor freight has some really good prices. Just thinking about it you'd probably need a good socket set (regular and deep well), screwdrivers, jack and jack stands, and a brake piston tool. I'm sure someone has already posted how to replace rotors and pads in the DIY section. You'll not only save money but you'd get the experience. If not, take it somewhere that has a good record of working on EVOs as suggested above.

Like everyone said, just find a tuner shop to do it.. No sure who all is around there in PA.. CBRD is in York.
I would never let Midas touch anything. We deal with a couple Midas' through work and they are some of the shadiest places we have to deal with.
Or just take everyone's advice and get the tools and do it. There are 20 lugnuts, 8 bolts, and 8 pins to knockout. Thats all you have to do to change the entire brake system on the car.

Why are they upselling you on rotors is the question?
I would not go to Midas. For $3000 you can buy a full set of nice 2-piece rotors, pads, SS lines and better fluid.
Either buy the parts and tools to DIY or buy the parts and take it to a shop that specializes in EVOs. Like CBRD as someone else suggested.
If you PM MAP directly they usually give a decent discount on parts.

HOT DAMN. I just changed the rotors and pads on my sisters jetta for $150 (all parts). And yes, I know... different car. But $3000? That's crazy. The X is not some magical beast.....
