CV boot leaking/front axle replacement
Hey guys,
So I went to get my clutch replaced and it looks like both outer CV boots up front were leaking bad. I didn't notice it last oil change so no telling how long it's been like this. Normally I'd just get a CV boot kit but I'd rather not risk it and just replaced the front left and right axle.
Any recommendation or experience on where to source a front left and front right axle? The dealership wants near $800...a piece.

Most times it leaks due to the factory clamps being weak and losing their clamping force on the boot against the shaft, if you will. If they're not clicking and making noises when turning, you more than likely just need the clamps assuming the boot isn't torn.
If there is damage (usually clicking noise when turning sharp at low speeds) , it might be easier to get them rebuilt by somebody that specializes in such thing over buying them brand new from Satan.

ill be replacing my passenger axle soon. i noticed that both the the outer and inner boots were torn. i have no idea how long thats been like that since i bought the car used. i bought my axle off of mitsubishipartswarehouse.com they are selling it for $650ish dollars. i just need to find a shop to replace it. i would normally do it myself but there is soon on the ground i dont have a garage available to me.

If the axle isn't clunking just buy a CV joint kit inner or outter and squeeze that googy stuff in the rubber housing and pinch it with something and you're done. I done it my self and i have been driving it for 25K miles with no issue.

Is the drive axle supposed to be hard to move? When I grab the axle, I can move it in and out a little bit and can hear some clunking noise. Am I supposed to be able to do this and is the noise normal? The car is jacked up but everything still installed.

the axle moves in and out in the housing it isn't a fixed design.
They have a locking ring inside the differential to prvent them from just sliding off.
Use a pry par to separate from trans and transfercase.
Use a fast motion on the pry bar vs a constant pressure sometimes if you don't "snap it" the clip wont let go.
