1 new tire or 2?
Walked out to find this on my front tire. My tires are at 6/32 and I'd rather not replace all 4 right now. I don't drive the car much and I could probably get another year or two out of them.
Is it true that it's bad to replace just one tire? There are a couple used options on ebay that are at 7/32.
Do I need to replace both front tires?

They should be all around the same. I THINK 7/32 would be fine as my tires are seldom exactly matched with wear when they get rotated. Hopefully someone with exact knowledge will chime in for you.

If they're a 6/32, a used replacement (same make/model tire) at 7/32 will be fine.
The real question is, how deep is that cut? It may just be cosmetic. If you can't see cords, don't worry about it..

Thanks, and I was wondering about that. I don't think you can see cords, but it's pretty deep.

The rubber on the side wall is basically cosmetic. If you can't see the cords, just carefully cut the flap off. That way it can't snag anything and tear further. And just run it.

This is pretty crazy info.. do they take new tires and shave them or source used for you? Also what would they chrage the price of a new?

It's not part of the bead. He tore the "rim protector" which is just extra rubber on the sidewall. Also, the bead seals where it seats on barrel of the wheel, not on the vertical lip.
