Goo-gone works good but then it seems like you've still got this oily stuff on your trunk from the goo-gone. It took me a longer time to get rid of the goo-gone stuff than removing the excess glue.

I used really warm water and my nails to get as much off as possible, then the little bit that was left I used carnuba wax and buffed it right off. The goo gone stuff may work, but I was worried about the effect on the paint.

Use laquer thinner. It smells like pant thinner, but it's made for cars. I work as a detailer at honda, and when we take off the plastic on new cars, we use laquer thinner to get of exess glue, as well as almost anything else thats stuck on the paint and can't be removed by conventional methods.
