Evo gas mileage
I say buy a used Scion XB. The car has lots of room for trips and gets over 35 MPG. The only bad thing is it looks like a shoe on wheels. I'm sure you can find a used 1 cheap.
As far as the Evo goes I would not expect to get to great of gas mileage. It may have 4 doors like a family car but it eats up the gas like a hot rod.

Well,
this is what i would do......get a turboback (will increase highway mpg but decrease city mpg), a re-flash or a piggy back of some sort (utec or exede), check tire pressures, get a boost gauge and stay out of boost, and wait till your car breaks in. I also got 200 miles per tank when it was new, now I am averaging 260-300 mile per tank.

honestly though, this is a sports car that's meant to be DRIVEN...you should've been aware of the sacrifices you needed to make (a.k.a. gas $) before you purchased this car...i really don't believe in "driving like a grandma" in this car because...well...i bought this car to DRIVE, not to drive like a grandma.
To me, it's not worth couple of bucks I could save from gas just to deprive myself of the joy from hearing the turbo spool and the adreneline rush I get...just my .02

I installed a muffler delete pipe and picked up an extra 25-30 miles off a full tank (city driving). That's a 14-16% fuel efficiency increase. My efficiency may be an anomaly, there's some fuel to be saved by freeing up the exhaust.
