my first car's an evo..trust me...not a smart move. Although I baby my car...because like everyone else said, it got abused due to my lack of experience...the car has scratches here and there and the rims are in...not-so-perfect shape

i seriously suggest getting your bro 2.5rs as a learning car..that way when (and IF) he later on gets an evo at least he won't abuse it unintentionally

the evo is a car that while driving it u want to take it further and it builds up ur confidence.. I dont think that is necisarily a good thing for a beginner driver.. when ur not sure of ur abilities u will drive more appropriately. U have read plenty of threads of guys that have spun the evo out. Imagine doing that when ur learning how to drive. I personally dont think it is a good idea. especially with the weak clutch. Have fun replacing it in 2mo. because ur bro has to go through the learning curve. so will burn up especially quick. he should get a beater to learn to drive on and drive that car into the ground and when cannot opperate anymore should get a nice shiny evo.

Either that or have him pay for it himself.. when u buy something urself u are alot more careful withit. . hpe this helps

Learn on a lesser car. Get introduced to the concept of AWD.
Main reason is so that you dont mess up the drivetrain on the EVO.
Another reason is so that you learn how to corner properly. With 275 HP you can get squirly quick.
Anyone who goes out and buys a 275hp car as their first is asking for trouble and deserves it.

let the kid have what he wanted. My first car is an evo, my first real experience in driving a stick is an evo. I got 6000 miles on it right now and so far I had no problem except the part that my bro #$%& up my cigaret lighter. Nothing's wrong with the fuse, but I think it's a short circuit somewhere. I haven't have the time to get it check out yet. Anyway for those who think that an evo shouldn't be the first car to own, you're a real @#$% head. Come on be more optimistic man. Just because you had a bad experience with your past car, that doesn't mean that others will do the same. And oh yeah, ooooh an evo is so scary to drive. BS man, I wish this car could be more faster. Took me about a week to realize that. But I'm not about going fast, how often do I get to drive really fast. well maybe only when I need to past some slow ***. Yes I have an evo, but I don't go around racing people on the street, well anymore that is. I'm retire from street racing, I'm thinking about tracking my car now. Knowing that it's not safe to race on the street, why not do it on a controle environment? You'll always remember your first love, let an evo be his first love for a car. I'm so crazy about the evo that I'm starting to save my money and buy another evo in the future. where I'm at I rarely see another evo, so I'm thinking about buying another model just to keep it company.

Just because you practice on another AWD car that doesn't mean that driving on an evo is gonna be the same. Hello it's a different car you know. So basicly it's not the same. To know how to drive an evo you got to drive one. You can't take another AWD car to practice with and expect the same result. I know that for a fact. If he like cars and care about it he wouldn't do stupid thing with it. It doesn't take a real brainer to know that. If you like your car you have to take good care of it.

For those that thinks that he shouldn't get an evo for his first car, I think you guys are just jealouse knowing the fact that an evo wasn't you first car so you're just degrating other who first car is an evo.

panty droppa... that's the funniest thing I've ever heard... If only the Evo was a chick magnet... the only chicks it attracts are the very VERY few who actually know how nice of a car it is... AWD gets you out of trouble most of the time, your bro would be fine as long as he knows it's not a car that should be launched hard

I would say wait atleast 1 1/2 to 2 years before getting a car like an evo. Its dangerous if you dont know how to drive it/ control it. I dont care what anyone says, everyone messes up their first car one way or another. Its better getting an evo going from a p.o.s., you appreciate it alot more.

Re: original post. THAT'S COMPLETELY INSANE. Don't get an EVO as your first car. You need to learn how to drive a regular car (read: less competent than the EVO) with a stick shift first. You'll kill yourself in an EVO if you barely know how to drive.

I totally agree. I'm 27 and every day I say to myself thank god I didn't get the Evo before now.
