Drop-Ins and Driveability
If you have a factory flashed ECU, stock turbo setup, maintain your stock airflow meter and seek to maintain stock like driveability w/o idle or stumble issues: the stock intake system w/ a high flow drop-in is the answer.
For most applications, the aftermarket intake gives you no performance advantage.
The stock Mitsubishi air flow system is designed to receive directional air only and collect that air in the rectangular box for a consistent air flow meter reading. Aftermarket intakes tend to collect air in many directions and therefore cause the air-flow meter to read unsteady. Through datalogging, this shows a tendency for cars with intakes to stumble at 5000+ rpms.
If you plan to maintain your air flow sensor....ie keep your warranty....choose a drop-in.
If you need the bling, need the sound or are more concerned with show rather than go......the aftermarket intakes are for you.
As a result of countless hours of R&D, WORKS studied the drop-ins available, re-engineered a drop-in and came up with the finest Evo drop-in on the market. We designed the most efficient drop-in on the market, w/ a larger surface area than K&N and better flow than all others.

i have the works drop in here. noticeable power gain; but main benefit is driveability. whereas before the drop in the car would buckle under or around 1500rpm, now it's really smooth. throttle response and spool improved, but not dramatically. unfortunately there's basically no sound difference whatsoever.

Ok, here's a question...if the car is tuned will a short ram offer more performance gains than a drop in? In other words, if you're planning on having the car tuned anyway, is there an advantage of one over the other besides the sound?
