That's a good idea. My girl's first attempt at manual was on a test-drive Tiburon. She now drives an RX-8, which I feel is MUCH easier than the Evo. The RX-8 was the car she actually learned on, and everything about it is easier than the Evo. That said, now that she rocks at manual, she can drive my Evo with no problem.

I would caution learning on an Evo simply because of one problem. If you over-rev, which is inevitable while learning, that turbo kicks up pretty quickly and you're going to be doing some hard launching which could lead to a subsequent loss of control. If you could learn on something else, I would recommend it, but the Evo really wouldn't be a bad car to learn on. It's more difficult than others I've driven, but more fun once you have it. Good luck, bro!

Oh yeah...I learned manual on my Godfather's 1986 Alfa Romeo, and that was hard considering it didn't have a hydraulic clutch. Any of the newer cars are a lot easier. Good luck once again.

actually has to do with the fact that the Evo has a very low base compression ratio, and makes barely any torque without making boost. This makes it necessary to slip the clutch more, and be more gentle than you do with cars with more bottom end torque.

Heh, not a bad idea, I'll see if I am able to learn before I manage to get one.

Knowing the concept of how to do it, it really doesn't sound all that hard, but I guess I won't know until I try it. Ugh, kinda sucks though being 21 and yet to drive a manual transmission car lol.

Anybody mind answering what are the most common mistakes people do when they start out? My guess would be popping the clutch.

Once again, thanks in advance and for all the suggestions.

IMHO, the EVO is a difficult manual car. I've driven all sorts of manual vehicles before, but an AWD car is really tricky. You'll get it eventually. Unless you plan on "dropping clutches" often, you're clutch should last a while even for an inexperienced driver.

Wait until summer when the AC is blasting, you'll have to relearn the clutch engagement.

Is that the reason why we see many people complaining about premature clutch wear on the forums? Because to be honest, I really don't see myself dropping the clutch to get a killer launch at the drag strip or on the street, but I do see myself modding it a bit (3" turboback with high flow cat, EBC, drop in filter and reflash from Dynoflash) after I learn more about the car, so that might wear it out a bit faster thanks to increased power.

Learning to drive stick is easy... you can use the evo.. I taught my gf in 10 minutes with my old ww evo with 540hp....

The only problem youll have driving stick is starting uphill... the rest should be easy besides advanced techniques such as heel toe, downshifting properly etc... which you really dont need to know as of yet
