rx8 driver to new evo mr

I just bought a 06 evo MR in graphite gray.
I'm a former rx8 owner, and I wasn't happy with rx8's performance and mpg, worthless in snow ect..

Well driving the evo to my office today was a blast!!

keeping the rpm under 4000 for proper engine break in was difficult as i was tempted and tempted to step on the gas

Totally different car than rx8.
rush of power is experienced once the turbo spools,
whereas rx8 rush of power is only after 7000rpm.

well, any suggestions on the engine break in would be nice.

btw, i paid 34k + tag + tax. I thought it was a good deal,, what cha think??

engine break in is BS

bearings are non contact, so there is no need to 'break them in'

you want to romp on it to get some compression in the cylinders to seat the rings against the walls better.

congrats on the purchase

We keep getting newbies who log in to introduce themselves then talk about breaking in the engine with rpms that are way too low. Read the manual! You are only supposed to stay below 5k rpm up to the 600 mile mark. This means you should go up to 5k rpm and SHOULD boost regularly so the piston rings can seal. I am not sure about the "romp it from day one" theory, so I just suggest this one. It still makes use of the engine and turbo, but doesn't take everything to the ragged edge. You also want to take it easy for other powertrain components to break-in, such as the tranny and brakes.

34k? Yeah, that's incredible for a new IX MR that was just released and is a special version, because that's below invoice. Invoice is 33,139+700(mr package)+267(zero lift kit)+595(dest charge)=34,800. Getting it for less than that really makes no sense, because there are plenty of people who will pay full price for it. Then, there's a ton more who will pay straight invoice. Less than invoice is just...well...dumb (on the dealership's part). For you, it's awesome.

Welcome to the forum.

I test drove a red RX8 once, the interior was awsome, I really like the interior a bit more than my then WRX, I almost traded the WRX for it but the engine did not pull as hard as I thought, it revs really high but it takes a while to get there.

I love the two plus two concept, specially with the center tunnel between the rear seats, and the suicide doors are the coolest thing I ever seen around, that is totally pimp from the 60's in the Lincolns.
You went from one galaxy to a different galaxy, the MR is a much better car.

My theory & manual's theory as well. Follow the manual and you will be fine.

My paint might suck a$$ but my engine was properly broken-in

Congrat on the new Car.

I also break-in like WarrTalon & Cali2MDevo8; Kept it under 5K rpms but still boost.

Nice trade!

RX8s look great and they handle pretty good...too bad the 1.3 rotary has no torque and gas mileage is just horrendous.

I would love to see that engine with twin turbos a-la-RX7.

+1

It's funny how there are so many people out there that don't know anything about this car....among others like the STI.
