Getting a EVO

Getting a EVO
I am trying to get a used EVO and there is 2003 that has salvage title, but without any frame damage at all and both airbags did not get deployed. The car had front damage from an accident before but it has been well repaired and the current owner has been driven for a few thousand miles without any problem. People couldn't tell the car has salvage title if you don't tell them. It seems to be a very clean and well maintained car. Total mileage is a little less than 23,000 miles. The Mods are Apex N1 catback exhaust, DC downpipe, ground kit, intake, bigger intercooler piping, stage 2 racing clutch, HKS spark plug, brake pad, turbo timer, boost controller. The owner is asking for $19K. What do you guys think? Is it a good buy?

NO!!!! did you see the before picture? I bet it was one of the accident photos on here. call or track the original owner, and talk to them! Some banks wont lend the money if the title says SALVAGE. The title should say REBUILT now, but again, that varies state by state! Get or look at all reciepts, to see what was replaced. weather the parts are new or rebuilt!

yeah, 19K for a salvage vehicle is way too much, you could get a clean titled 03 for a couple more G's. Salvage vehicles typically sell around 1/2 of what a "clean" vehicle would. 03's are going for $20-$24k. The mods list doesn't justify the price either. I'd offer $12K-$13K and haggle from there.

That's way too much. Also, are you paying cash? If not, then you may not be able to get a loan, and if you do, the finance rate is going to be higher than normal...You'd be better off to look for a clean higher mileage '03.

no matter what, as soon as "salvage title" is mentioned the value of the car drops by 1/2. i dont care if its an Enzo Ferrari. my father works at a mistu dealership and deals with this everyday. 15k ABSOLUTLY MAX not a penny more. and even thats pushing it. if you buy it, and someday decide that you want to sell it nobody will buy it because of the title. and then your gonna take a bath on the price too. or you and contact your local DMV and see how much of a pain it would be to get a new title for it, so its not a salvage title any more. then you might be able to make some $. i know in NY its an act of God but it can be done, its gotta go for a special 58 point inspection that the state does, not like the inspection like the garages do but similar. they go throught it w/ a fine tooth comb. its hard to pass it but it cane be done. remember im talking form NYS, i dont know how yours does things. i how this helps w/ your desision.

its salvaged for a reason, whether its an accident, water damage (which is the worst) etc, nothing is salvaged for no reason, the price is too high, and from what ive seen on the board, the 03 models seem to have quite a few problems as is, so imagine a salvaged 03, not a good idea, just be patient, your time will come
