Except for the warmup phase when waiting for the engine temps to get up to spec, I spend most of my time above 3.5k until I'm at cruise speed. I boost all over the place in every gear at all times whenever possible. I get 19-20mpg every tank unless I go on a long highway trip, then it approaches 23 or so...
Oh ok, cool. I have to stay under 3k for normal driving to get about 21mpg. If i do 3.5k, semi-aggressive driving (2-7psi, part throttle), then i only get about 17-18mpg.

I don't know. It just depends on the situation. If I have room to rag it out to 7k, I do. If there's traffic or a speed limit or simply not a good place to boost to 7k, I shift around 5k. It's all dependent. If not boosting at all, I shift around 4k, but that's with only part-throttle acceleration anyway, which doesn't build as much boost.

nice vid warr i dont find the lack of power before 3k to be annoying at all (maybe it's cuz i drive a honda ). one of the reason i like the evo over the sti is due to slightly more turbo lag. it's such a rush when the turbo spools up and ur tach just spike and the car just jumps forward. IMO, that's the best feeling.

just my 2 cents

What's up Warrtalon,
Nice launch. Watching the Video and hearing your exhaust makes me want it. It sounds good. Quick question. At what rpm do you launch you EVO at???

That seems really low, how bad is the lack of hp/tq below 3k (even 3.5k) rpms?

Feel really really slow ? On my SRT, it annoys me that there isnt much hp/tq before 2.5k but with the 2.4L and smaller (quicker spooling) turbo, the low end isnt too bad.
I have a 06 IX. The car pulls strong from beginning to end. Obviously it not as strong as once the turbo spools up but for a turbocharged motor it not bad at all. Just get the car you wont regret it. Trust me.

Its a 2.0 4 banger what do you Expect? The SRT 2.4 Is alot bigger with a td05h, This turbo doesnt take anything to spool on that motor, i remember when i had mine i used to hammer it in 2nd and The tires would spin all the way to 60 that was always fun! But these cars arent the same, its a smaller motor with a biger turbo so its not really accurate for you to be comparing the 2.

Around 6k. In fact, now that I have the Dynoflash launch control, it will always be right at 6k rpm for sure. Wait until I get a vid with the launch control activated. Hopefully, I'll be able to show both the launch control in action and an 11-sec run all at once...
