Greetings! Just bought my first Evo IX SSL! Pics and questions.

Hello everyone! I've browsed the forum in the past but just registered because two days ago I purchased a 2006 Evolution IX in Graphite Gray with the Sun, Sound, and Leather package. As a former Audi owner, i'm a huge fan of AWD and MAN.... does this thing perform! The day after buying the car I purchased a Clarion Pro Audio DXZ655MP cd/mp3/wma/ipod/sirius head unit because i felt the factory infiniti upgraded deck was quite lackluster and had issues with playing burnt cd's.

Here is the deck I picked out:

This next week i'm going to be removing my SoundStream Reference 500s sub amp and boston acoustics pro series 12's from my totaled A4 (drunk driver hit me head on) and install that to get some more bass out my soundsystem. I also plan on having Line-X sprayed throughout the trunk and door panels to deaden sound.

Not long after that, i'm looking at MOAR POWER!!!!! A friend told me to look into www.AMSTUNED.com for an exhaust, intake, and software. I'm not sure how loud their 3" full exhaust system is though. While i love power and speed, I don't want my car to be heard from 5 blocks away if you know what i mean. Maybe you guys have some suggestions into some good performance mods which can keep my costs to a minimal without sacrificing quality?

This was the kit I was looking into getting. I may be able to pull off a good deal through my friend who is a distributor of performance parts....

Here are some photos of my new toy! Without the new head unit installed of course....

Welcome to the Evo world and great choice on your IX. They are absolute beasts and put our VIIIs to shame.

As for mods, I recommend the package in my sig. It is cheaper than the AMS route, will give more power, and will be very simple, reliable, and safe. AMS is an incredible asset to the Evo community, but their staged packages aren't great. You can click the link in my sig to see the exact mods and details of the IX package, and the price you see includes free shipping. Let me know if you have any questions!

Hmm... interesting info. I'm going to be doing a lot of shopping around because everyone seems to be giving out different performance numbers for similar setups.

Are these crank numbers they're talking about or Dyno'ed. Because everything i've seen on their site says they're dyno numbers and actually show the slips.

www.amstuned.com claims:

AMS Evo VIII Stage 1 $1,100.00

Automotosports stage one for Mitsubishi Evolution VIII is the first step in improving the performance of your Evo bringing it up from the stock 275 HP to around 365 to 375HP. This kit includes everything to get your engine breathing easier, along with the ability to control the amount of boost you are running as well as the how much fuel your enginee gets. Intake is provided through either a flat panel drop in filter or a high flow cone style filter that replaces the entire stock airbox with a higher flowing design. The exhaust portion of this stage is the AMS 3\" full stainless steel cat back exhaust system, fuel is controlled through the Apexi Super AFC-II, and boost is modulated via our simple manual ball and spring designed boost controller. We offer optional parts at the bottom of the page as inexpensive upgrades to various parts that are found in our kit.

K&N Drop In High Flow Air Filter
AMS Stainless Steel Cat Back Exhaust
AMS Manual Boost Controller Kit
Apexi AFC-II (Please Specifiy Black or Blue/Silver When Ordering)
Stewart Warner Boost Gauge with Carbon Fiber Gauge Cup

Mine is proven on the dyno and at the track. Those numbers you quoted are crank numbers as you can see by the "stock 275hp." Those are also specific to the VIII, not the IX. The claimed gains for just that stage 1 are way off, though. No way does any Evo gain 90-100hp just from a cat-back, MBC, and SAFC. The Buschur package includes a full exhaust (much better than a cat-back), a flash (much better than an safc that must be self-tuned after getting several more pieces of equipment), and the best MBC on the market. You will definitely get up 330whp on a Dynojet and 93oct with the Buschur package - possibly up to 340whp...

Cool. Thanks for the info. I really hate it how companies post crank numbers in order to try to make their products look like they perform better.

Aside from that, i know you're biased considering you're a tuner yourself.... but does AMStuned make good products? Who else is a good evo tuner? I'm looking at all options and chances are i'll eventually go with your gear.

I'm planning on putting in my subs, Line-X'ing my trunk and doors, and tinting my windows first though.

Oh.... and tomorrow (monday) morning i'm having the new LoJack system installed. The one that calls your cell phone the moment someone tries to break a window, start the car, pop the hood, etc. Typically in California.... you're car is in mexico before you even knew it was gone.... making the old LoJack worthless.

Oh.... regarding exhausts. Who makes a quiet 3" system that has a nice tip that isn't sticking out at an angle. I hate that look.

i dont belive there really is a quiet exhaust for the Evo...lol. search the fourms and read...but for the most part anyone that is a Vendor on this sites makes decent parts/tunes/sells. TurboTrix, Buscher, AMS, Vishnu etc.....best bet is to do some research and not just ask one person cause there always goin to biased.

I'm not a tuner, but I am biased towards the parts, vendors, and tuners in my sig who sponsor me. The trick, though, is that I've partnered up with these sponsors, because I believe in their parts. Each of the big ones stood on its own here on EvoM before I was even driving an Evo, so they were established places with great parts/tuning. I just chose a path, kicked some ***, and got some sponsorships from the people whose parts I like most. Yes, AMS makes a few good products, but they are mostly a tuner/vendor, not a manufacturer. Most of the stuff you buy will be manufactured by some other company, yet sold by the vendor you choose. As for tuning, AMS has some very fast cars, but they just started flashing ECUs. I personally use Dynoflash who has the most Evo customers, who has his own 9-sec Evo and who won more big races last year than any other shop. His flash is included in the Buschur/Warrtalon package, so you get that included...

On the exhaust, that's also included in the package. You get the famous Buschur Racing turboback exhaust that now comes with the special bullet muffler that is super-light, quiet, straight (not angled), and very powerful. You are also allowed to choose between getting a test pipe (louder, more powerful) or a hi-flow cat (quieter, less powerful).

We employee 4-5 full time fabricators. We make a huge amount of products in house. The stages are actually quite old now and for the most part don't apply toward the Evo IX. Much has changed between then and now.

Very misleading Clayton! To clarify for the newbie; Al's 9 sec monster is not a result of his flash or tuning ability. As far as the Warrtalon package goes for the Evo 9? I feel it is a good deal but has the boost controller controversy been addressed? I read today something about needing an AVCR because of the boost taper on the evo9 via Mivec has made it difficult to hold boost with tactics used on the evo8.

Hey man, welcome to the group. Nice ride.
As for your mods, do lots and lots of research. Everyone here will be biased toward one company or another. Just because you spend more money does'nt mean your going to be faster or get better parts. Me personally, I'm a fan of Buschur's products. Great quality product and great price. Check out the Buschur/wartallon combo.
Keep us updated.
