Another WRX spy on your site
Hey Everyone,
Another proud Suby owner just wanting to learn more about the Evo. I've heard all the myths and legends about the 9 and MR so I wanted to afirm them.
Still trying to figure out how you guys benefit so much more from the same mods
Anyways, thanks for letting me join the group and I hope to learn more!

The EJ20 is no rookie, but it is not built to handle near as much power as the 4G63, and your stock turbo could fit inside our stock turbo. Anyway, I consider a WRX closer to a Ralliart Lancer. We really only deal with STi's, and even those can't keep up with Evo VIIIs with the same mods. IXs aren't even close.

well the wrx is a hell of a lot faster than a RA. WRX's do 0-60 in 5.7 right? and the RA does it in like 7.5 if i am correct. They also handle better so i dont think they are much of a close comparison IMO

ANYWAY, the EJ20T is not a bad motor in itself, but there are quite a few differences which account for the smaller performance gains with the same mods. As mentioned the turbo is quite small, and the intake manifold has always been hard to perfect on the boxer motors. Oh, and then everything else is different about the two motors, except displacement
Welcome to the board. Any mods on the WRX?

welcome to the forum.
as you are prolly now aware, the evo (9 specially) seem to take to mods very well. The reason, according to various tuners I know (who are more familiar to evos) it's got quite a lot to do with the fact that the plumbing in the sti's are just not very suitable for forced induction. It is also due, in no small part, to the extremely complex ecu in sti's. Basically there are very few things you can do to it without needing a tune. Now this on it's own isn't all that bad, but if you consider that not all ecu tuners are created equal and so on, things get a little difficult. Obviously you need a tune on evo's to get the best out of your mods, but it just seems that the sti's ecu's are not as tolerant or a little over complicated for it's own good...

Yes, I'm talking about THE S203. Just for a stone chip in the cf lower lip
Truth be told, it's not all that quick, but it's nice nonetheless.
