how many miles to break in the motor

I just baught a 9 and i heard they want you to wait till 5,000 miles. I talked to a couple of other local guys. 1 said he changed his oil at 500 miles and then he started steppin on it that sounds kinda scary . Then the other guy told me 2000. I'm at 2200 right now and i didnt want to do anything until i got some other opinions.

If you look in your manual it will say 600, no reason to wait 2k miles, just let her loose after 600 miles.

600 miles is more than enough.

But, it's really up to you man.

Just take it easy for the first 600 miles and she'll treat you good.

Good lord, 2200 miles? What a waste. Like su37su said, this is directly in your manual and the dealership themselves would tell you 600 miles. Hell, they made me and many others watch a video, and the video also said 600 miles. You should have boosted hard but not above 5000rpm for the first 600 miles, then after that, you romp on it.

I was in the DC metro area when I bought my MR, and they made everyone watch it. I haven't heard anyone talk about it in a while, so I guess they stopped doing it. You didn't miss out - it was a pain being FORCED to watch it before being given the keys.

Dan, I don't know anyone who says 900. The manual says 600 - no reason to go longer and many reasons to go shorter.

warr im not saying that is what it should be. if you do a seach i was just stating that people say between 600 to 900 miles. i dident meen to come on as 900 is the brake in. eather way it wont hurt. just makes him wait longer for the good part. i was just saying what go's around because this will not hurt him.

personaly i did my brake in like i would drive it. i drove it hard under 5000rpm till 700 miles. then i started to go thru tires. lol. enjoy
