When I ge my new EVO IX......

When I get my new evo IX do I have to worry about the car burning oil? I surely hope not. my friend said that I have to add at least a quart of oil every two weeks. I was like "WTF?" I'm really hoping he gave me false information. Please tell me it ain't so.

Thanks guys
-John

lol not a quart every two weeks...tell your friend he's a moron

depends how hard you drive it...initially you might have to add up to a quart the first 1000 miles

in my STi I never had to add any but a lot of people did...so far my evo hasn't burned it up excessively

i ve made my 1rst oil change already at 2000 miles and because i check my oil levels at least twice a week i haven't noticed any oil consumption...

a quart of oil every two weeks? LMAO...

unless you are running a 2-stroke engine or pistons without piston-rings i doubt that you ll ever see this kind of oil consumption...

Lightbulb 2600 miles here

Yesterday I decided to check my out just to go it and I noticed the oil came up to between the two marks on the dip stick, so i went to walkmart and go a Qt of Mobil oone synthetic.

I dont drive my car hard, just spirited from time to time, but most of the time just nomaly shift and accell to 3000 - 4000 rpms.

I just hope this in the break-in add of oil and that it doesn happen again.
a friend who has a caynee tubo (porsche) has to add 1 qt every 1000 miles... and this is normal for those cars.

so I asked Mitsubishi and they told me that since our cars are just Lancers, we shouldnt really burn oil - now I am concerned.

my car doesn't burn any oil. it's not a rotary, you don't need to add a quart every 2 weeks

your idiotic friend is a real evo owner too. He does drive a real evo. But i believe what your friend is just saying is to add little oil between oil changes. Some dealorships recommend you to check your dipsticks often for oil level since turbo consumes little oil. Probably a miss understanding of word pass down from person to person.

If your rings seated properly it shouldn't burn much if any oil. Since you seem to drive it very easy I would imagine you haven't broken it in all the way even at 2600 miles.

You have to remember its loaded rpms that really do the breaking in on rings.

i just came back to mitsu. and a service tech told me that usually i should see one 1qt missing every 3000 miles. and that when the car is new it usually consumes a little more the fist 3000 miles.... ? he also added that since these are turbo perhaps the oil consumption would be a little more than NA daily drivers but nothing like 1qt every 1000 miles.

well i will just monitor it and see what happens. I guess as long as I dont see spot on my driveway or white smoke out my exhaust I am in good shape.
