Mount the valve so that the exhaust dumps under the car. It will prevent high back pressure if the valve ever fails. The way you have shown looks dangerous.

Use your imagination. Hell, I dont know what inside that valve looks like. Only the OP does.

ok guys so u guessed it.. the valve will be fully open at all times.

Will be partially closed (1second push) when the good-guys stop me to check the sound, and it happened to me twice already.. Once they hear a subtle noise they wont ask.

Its a risk i totally agree, but it's wat i have to take in order to keep my car from being impounded..

Usually it's a dump valve yes, it's from Jegs..

Why not put back your stock exhaust on and have that valve dump under the car when on boost. I'm thinking about doing this. It will be a sleeper. Loud as hell when boosting though.

pretty good idea if your only gonna use it when you're pulled over

im doing manual cable versions of this cutout on my v8 s10 for the opposite reason. ie: open headers around the parking lot and for ****s and giggles, then when closed it'll run through the normal exhaust

Sounds like an OK idea if it is open 99% of the time. Just close it when the fuzz comes out with the DB meter. I like it.

True, lambo/ferrarri not a good example re: lack of turbo, but some exhaust systems do re-route exhaust flow with a similar type of arraingement.

picture, instead of a dinnerplate skewered by a rod (butterfly valve on our throttlebodys), a dougnut or a huge flat washer skewered by a rod (open in the middle). The hole in the middle could be 2.25" and the restriction would only be at the outside rim of the pipe, ALTHOUGH I have no idea how this could effectively reduce sound levels. A better guess would be a "perforated dinner plate" idea.

All previous is pure conjecture on how to let exhaust flow through a butterfly-type of valve

Actually, this is an awesome idea if the valve operated quickly. If it was load controlled it would be even off the hinges! Imagine having great low end torque and nice top end flow, as well as a nice quiet idle. Autos and cycles that come equipped with them go thru a diagnostic check every time you start the vehicle, from fully closed to fully open. The valve is spring pre-loaded so that if the motor fails, it will maintain an open position. Only problem with them is heat. Heat kills the valve motor.

The factory muffler has a spring loaded flapper that opens when exhaust pressure increases, so I don't see how something like this would hurt a motor, especially when the valve has a failsafe.

Dear Guys,,, I've waited patiently and it finally happened!!!

I got stopped by the 'good guys' at the very moment i started closing the valve until the sound deadened.. The guy comes to me, tells me to open up the revs and hears: plain nothing, smooth engine revs.. He goes back, checks the exhaust, comes back again and tells me to get out of the car, enters the car, revs it himself to redline.. just normal exhaust whiss..

I was 'internally' laughing my butt off! And he simply agrees to my statement that i muffled the exhaust and it's just for show!

I drive away normally.. no ticket no nothing..

Now who's the man..

if the butter fly is smaller than the pipe diameter, then air would still be able to flow even if the valve is completely closed. this is probably a safer way of doing it.

there is a dump valve that is vac/boost operated, you hook up your boost line to it and the valve will open under boost and closed while cruising.

Would have been funny if you opened it back up and sped back onto the road. Then get pulled over again

That device is called ECV.
I have one in my closet. It doesn't fully close like dump valves. also you can adjust the angle of the valve for more opening when it is closed. Apexi also has the electronically controlled motor unit that gets installed inside car to pull the cable of ECV and you can program anyway you want.
