Engine Life/Mileage - How far with big power-

Just wanted to ask about Engine life. I was wondering just how far(mileage wise) our engines will last with high power. Or high power for my tastes such as 450-500hp. I guess I'm wondering if I mod my engine up to around 450-500hp how long will it last before freshening? I know it depends but let's say I treat it well. Change the oil every3000, and take good care to do all that I can to not overpush the engine. Thanx...

Q/ST

I've heard somewhere that doubling the power cuts the engine life in half, tripling your power cuts engine life by a third, etc. Of course it's possible to have 800 AWHP and get 200,000 miles our of your engine by never boosting.

I seem to remember hearing that the service interval was much more frequent on the FQ400 and that's less power than what you're considering.

high revving will cut the life span down by at least half...
I'm talking about frequent trips to the strip and hard driving altogether

It all depends what you consider "life of an engine".
Bearings, rings, pumps are all wear items. As long as you replace them before anyhting catastropic occurs, Your motor could last over a million miles.

Edit: Also, oil changes play a huge part, as well as how lean your a/f mixture is. leaner= more heat.

Well, you can always rebuild once the engine goes kaput.

I don't know...too many variables to tell. You may be putting down that much power but if you rarely ever push it to that power output level when driving then probably not huge. You can have a stock car that you're constantly redlining and it could break before something that has 500hp.

With proper maintainance your motor should last at least 150-200k miles.
I really think our chassis and other things will give out before our motor does.
