ok, my check engine light keeps coming on and off. it'll be on for like a day or two than disappear. Then a couple hundred miles later it'll come back on again and repeats itself. I called mitsu and they told me that it could be my fuel cap. If there was something wrong with the car, wouldn't the light stay on, and NOT go on and off like that??? Any help is appreciated.

Does the fuel cap being taken on/off correspond to the toggling of the light on the dash? Take it off and put it on a few dozen times to see if there is any truth in what they said.

i think the best advice would be to bring it to the dealer if its still under warranty..you'll have piece of mind knowing that it'll get diagnosed/repaired properly. Eitherwise theres so many possibilities as to what may be goin on..it'll just be the blind leading the blind. good luck bro.

go to Autozone and have them put the computer on it and give you the code- then search the threads and you'll find whatever code the computer gives you

Don't the dealer still charge you for diagnosing the car even if it's under warranty?

If the repair is under warranty, then no. If it is not, then yes. So it's more of a maybe until you know more. A third party, autozone was mentioned, is probably cheaper.
