o2 housing install

I searched the forums for the best way to replace the o2 housing. When I took off the stock downpipe the passenger side hole was stripped along with the bolt so I will be throwing on a new o2 housing. What is the best way to do it? I cant find any threads at all. I heard you have to pull the turbo? maybe I will do a write up as Im doing it.

Some help would be appreciated, if anyone can find a post with some pics or something.

Thanks guys

pull the radiator and then pull the whole turbo assembly, from the manifold to the O2. then repalce it out of the car and put the whole assembly in as one.

yes and no...either way you are increasing flow but yes to take FULL advantage of it you'd need a tune

easiest and simplest is to pull HALF the turbo.

easy to do.

FIRST-place a piece of card board inbetween the radiator and the turbo to avoid smashing up the radiator fins.

remove downpipe-14mm

remove 1 bolt that holds the turbo o2 housing from below. remove 1 other bolt on the lower part of the heat shield closest to the a/c compressor.12mm-2

remove upper heat shield. 12mm bolts-4

remove spark plug cover and unplug o2 sensor connector. 10mm-4

loosen 4 bolts to turbo housing- 14mm

loosen all bolts to exhaust manifold. 2 are 14mm while the others are 12mm

remove exhaust manifold.

remove all other heat shield bolts-3 left 12mm

move heatshield enought to access the cotter pin in the wastegate actuator arm. DONT LOSE IT...pop off the arm from the wastegate lever.

you can see the clamp that holds the two halves of the turbo together. IF your lucky enough, the 10mm nut should be facing you. undo this v band clamp. remove clamp and replace nut onto the bolt.

you should be able to grab the exhaust side of the turbo and slowly remove it. if it needs some persuasion, use the wood handle side of a hammer and LIGHTLY tap the turbo housing. it should break free.

WORD OF CAUTION-MAKE DARN SURE THAT YOU DONT HIT YOUR TURBO FINS!!!

DISCLAIMER-there may be more steps or you may have complications. use these at your own descretion. in no way is the writer responsible for broken bolts, bloody knuckles, swearing, broken windows, or any other actions by the person doing the modifications.

enjoy and i hope everything works/helps you.

Can't you just unbolt the O2 housing without having to mess with the turbo itself? I too will be doing this.

Yes you can unbolt the housing from the turbo and not have to mess with the turbo itself. I can actually remove the housing without actually removing the downpipe from the cat. It'll push out of the way enough to get the socket and wrenches in there to remove the nuts and bolts. Just make sure you use plenty of PB Blaster on the bolts. I also found out that if you run the car long enough to get the exhaust warm, not scolding hot, and spray the Blaster on to let it penetrate, the bolts come free quite easily. All the nuts/bolts are 14mm by the way. And the o2 sensor is removed with an adjustable.

Well for any of you guys in PA, feel free to pm me and I'll give you my phone # and I could explain it or show you. But the overall ease of replacing this part is not complicated.
