Buying a used evo from a private owner.

Im buying a used 2003 evo off a private owner in maryland. he told me thier are some recalls on the car that need to be fixed.

1.wing is peeling, recall
2.brembo brake finish is peeling, recall
3.the syncros in the tranny are going up, recall

Are these 3 recall correct? also the car has 28k miles on it so if i get the car how will i get it fixed? were thier any other recalls im missing out on? thks

Is the car 100 percent stock? If its not, use that as bargaing power, or make the current owner get the work done, because mitsubishis not going to honor any of that if there are mods. ****, they probibly wont even if there are none.

The car is beyond the bumper the bumper warranty now since it is past 3 years. So scratch the first item off the list.

All of those are common problems with VIII's. Dealer won't do anything with the first 2, the 3rd you still have 1 year left and 32K on the odometer. Definately try to knock the money off since you won't get the dealer to fix the recalls, well at least the first 2, but good luck with the third one dealers are a bunch of crooks!

You have 30 days to transfer the warranty into your name otherwise they will obviously do nothing. I think that if it was under warranty he would get it done himself. Get the vin and call the dealership that is going to do the work and you will find out the history too.

As long as you are firm with the dealer you'll get your way. They have to prove under the Magnuson-Moss Act that any modifications directly caused the failure not to warranty a vehicle so if you go in knowing your stuff and make them aware of it, you'll come out on top.
