WHP Debate....HFC vs Testpipe

I was having a disagreement with a friend last night. I have a 3inch Ultimate Racing High Flow Cat (to help reduce noise levels a little bit) and my friend was trying to convince me that a 3inch Perrin Testpipe (or any 3inch testpipe) will gain me another 15whp over my HFC.

I can see a 3inch testpipe giving me good gains over the stock catalytic convertor, but not 15whp gains over a 3inch Ultimate Racing HFC.

What are your thoughts? I was arguing that I would probably gain another 5-7whp by switching from my 3inch Ultimate Racing HFC to a Perrin 3inch Testpipe (or any 3inch testpipe).

Sorry for the stupid and pointless debate, just wanted to see who was closer to the actual truth.

Just an FYI:
I have a buschur racing 02 housing
Ultimate Racing 3inch downpipe
Ultimate Racing 3inch High Flow Cat
Ultimate Racing 3inch Cat-Back
K&N Drop in filter

I would say you could average about a 5hp increase with test pipe over a hfc.

there were a few threads about this. I believe one member changed from a hfc to a test pipe and gained 10-12 hp.

To The wheels?

If so thats pretty damn good. That might make me want to switch out my HFC.

Basically, the more you mod the more you'll see an increase...

Don't forget about the awesome benefit of breathing noxious fumes! That's a big plus for a test pipe! No longer will you have to worry about sitting at a light breathing normally --- now you can bathe your nostrils in unfiltered exhaust fumes!

(WARNING: May cause cancer. Not recommended for children under 90).

Thanks for the knowledge everyone.

So what test pipe do you guys recommend. Like you all have said a 3inch pipe is a 3inch pipe. Is the Perrin worth $179 since you won't get a cel with it. I have read somewhere that there is a cel fix, I Just can't remember where.

any pipe will do, you can fix a cell with 2 $5 parts from autozone. Anti fouler adapters, they've been working in my car for years

i think the debate is ongoing because many forget gains are different based on flow rate .... stock level boost and a few boltons wont achieve a 15hp difference on a test pipe from HFC... maybe closer to 5. as you progress, the difference will also increase

The gains are not simply from bolting on the test pipe but rather the boost and tune. You can run higher boost levels and hold them better with a test pipe.

If your worried about sound just buy a resonated test pipe like the RRE "rally cat". The rally cat is resonated and has heat shield so it looks like a cat but sure as hell doesnt smell like one.

15. haha

the difference is minimal

we're talking like 3hp max...it all depends on what kind of hfc you have (how restrictive or freer flowing the filters are)
