How to get louder turbo spool?
This may have been discussed before but did a search and couldnt find anything on it..
I am new to the EVO community. I picked up a 06 SE a couple months ago.. stock, you can actually hear the turbo spool.. once I installed an HKS RS intake, the suction is SO LOUD that I cant even hear the turbo spool anymore!
If I'm not looking to upgrade my turbo anytime soon or at all, how do I get louder turbo spool? Turning up the boost to 25 psi? get a quieter intake like the Apexi intake with the induction box? Do our turbos have a mechanism which quiets down the spool noise?
Sorry for all the newbie questions, but I would like to know what to do to achieve louder turbo spool.
Thanks for any help.

Well since no one can help provide the information this guy is trying to get I will try. With you HKS are you sure your just hearing the intake and not the turbo spooling up? I have a buschur intake and my turbo spool is very loud. Just keep in mind that just getting an intake is not the best upgrading route. This will also be a reason for your dealer to void your warranty. An intake can also cause other issues with your car. Look to get a tune that is designed for the intake you go with.

if your looking for a insanely louder spool, d/c a ic pipe and get it tuned to run n/a with the turbo still attached. If your looking to get a spool up sound and not a rs super suction sound, any k$n filter 4"+ will do it for u....
as steveosEvo said, all minor mods like these do not have the best effect without a proper tune.

Exhaust mods will also increase the sound of the turbo. A downpipe probably has the greatest effect other than the intake you already have.
I will also agree that you need to be tuned with that intake installed. I've got a IX as well and I ended up with some pretty lean spots with just exhaust mods. You might be okay with just that intake, but as you add mods you'll get leaner and eventually have a problem.

I just used the stock intake box with an HKS Super Hybrid drop-in filter... the guys at AMS said that they've achieved in upwards of 400whp with that intake setup. I've got their TBE with HFC and if you are looking for some good sound mine sounds pretty bad for the little amount of money spent.
*note* You will NOT get 400whp from the intake alone!

remove your air filter and dump some sand in the intake...not sure how reliale htat will be but if you dont want to do that, you can shorten the distance from your compressor housing, get a open air filter, and make sure the tubing you use is hard so it resonates the compressors blades sound (eg. aluminum)
