Exhaust rattle . . . I read through them all

I searched and read through the posts involving exhaust rattles, but I only found one that kind of pertained to my situation. My exhaust rattles against a bolt that is on a bracket of some sort around the driveshaft. Would stiffer exhaust hangers, ie Kartboy, fix this, or would something more drastic be in order? The guy who installed it said that bolt wasn't really doing much and that he could just cut that section off and it wouldn't hurt anything, but I'd rather not mar the car, whether it's underneath or not. Just how much movement do aftermarket exhaust hangers allow vs. stock? It seems to be alright when you first start the car, and worse as it warms up, so I'm thinking maybe the exhaust hangers are getting hot, and seeing that they're rubber, they get looser? I dunno.

Which springs did you go with? I've got a little rattle when I have someone in the backseat now after installing Swift Springs on my IX MR. I'm trying to find slightly longer hangers. If you hear of anything post it up...

My exhaust is doing the same thing. I also have tanabe springs. It sounds like my rattle is coming from my resonated test pipe. I have no idea why it started rattling. I know it’s not the test pipe itself. It sounds like its hitting on something.

It really is not a big deal at all. It is simply an extra heat shield that was not present on the VIII's. Do not feel bad about cutting it. I am like you and would prefer to not mar the car up, but that rattle had to go.

I’m going to look at it this weekend. It's starting to get annoying. It sounds like its rattling against some thin piece of metal. Possibly that heat shield everyone is talking about.

I just went back and had the bolt cut off. It really serves no purpose at all, after close inspection. Much more pleasant to drive now.

back from the dead.

my cobb exhaust is also hitting that bolt, I had a shop bent 1 of the bolt and it was 1/4 inch away from the exhaust so the rattle went away. After driving for 30 mins, the rattle is back! I keep looking at those 2 bolts and it looks like it serves no purpose at all. Did your car run into any problems after cutting them off?
