newbie Q about dsm
hopefully i will not get flamed for asking, as it is a serious question. how dificult would it be to convert a USDM mirage into an EVO 3? as it appears they use the same chassis (probably minus some bracing, but i can do that myself), and the 4g63T out of the eclipse is very readily available. my main concern is the transfer case and rear axle setup. is it possible to fit the evo 3 rear main section under a mirage? or is the chassis different out back? an even better question would be are the CE9A rear axle setup and the GSX/Tsi rear the same? i know it sounds a bit crazy, but i've built some crazy cars in the past, so i have no problem building another. anyone who has done this, or has info to contribute, please chime in. and no haters please, if it's just not feasible, leave it at that, no need for e-rampages and what not. sorry if this is a newbie question, im a toyotahead, never really dealt with dsm's. thanks for any input.

I do not know all the details or what it would take but I saw a video mag with a mirage that was converted to an EVO VI I believe. He did a full conversion, engine driveline, interior exterior. It was pretty tight. Good luck

time i have plenty of, as well as enginuity. and money, i dont see how it could be anymore expensive than my Group A AE86 build. my main concern is transplanting the motor, and driveline. making it "look" like an evo is my last concern. hell im sure even with just the motor swap and fwd it would be nice to drive. i figure, no more than 3k for a decent mirage. and probably another 2k for the motorswap if i hunt down the good deals. all the work would be done by myself, cutting out the labor cost factor. im sure that would be a lot cheaper than a used evo 8, and way more original too.

nope, i already checked that aspect out. the USDM 4g63 from 1st and 2nd gen dsm is mounted the same way as EVO 1-3, it wasnt until the CN9A (EVO 4+) that they mounted it the other way around. my main concern/question was the awd drivetrain, and whether the evo and the GSX/TSi share the same rear axle setup.
