My Test Drive
So i went to my nearest Mitsubishi dealer today for one reason only.......Test drive an Evo. I have been look for a new car and the only thing i have in mind is an evo. Most likely i will get an 8, but driving one today was amazing. Now, im 100% sure thats the car. So in as near as 6 months im getting one.
here was the evo i drove. 06 tarmac black evo IX mr
Everyone I have told im getting an Evo gives me SIHT, they all say STI is way better. It may be quicker, but an Evo can out corner an STI anyday.

The STi is slower than the IX, equal to the 05, and faster than the 03-04s. Of course, they're all close enough for it to be a driver's race. Regardless, it's widely-known that the Evo is a superior platform for anyone who prefers performance. The STi is better suited for daily driving.
Just remember that the IX you drove is much better than any VIII you'll buy, especially if you end up with an 03/04.

'03-'04s are rated at 271 hp and 273 lb.-ft and have open front differentials and viscous center differentials.
'05s are rated at 276 hp and 286 lb.-ft and have identical differentials to all '06s.
HOWEVER, despite the differences in peak hp and torque, the delivery before boost kicks in will be noticeable since the MIVEC in the IXs helps out down low.

As a side note, I got a chance to drive my friend's STi from Las Vegas back to SoCal last year. In comparison, the car felt slightly slower while its handling wasn't nearly as sharp compared to both of my Evos. And also his car had modifications already, Cobb springs and the AccessPort. I know he added other stuff (like downpipe and all this other stuff) but I don't think he had it on yet.
But cruise control was pretty nice to have. Gauges were nicer and I liked that it displayed the outside temperature, but none of those things really make it a better driver. The shifter felt pretty vague and loose (though my friend eventually changed out the bushings and it feels a lot better) and even in our traffic-free drive from Vegas that was pretty much constantly at 80-85 mph we only managed just barely over 20 mpg.

In all of the performance tests in Car and Driver, Sport Compact car, Road and Track, Automobile, and many others, the Evo has always come out on top according to the professionals who test cars for a living. I only think the STI won one single time and it was just because they felt bad for it. Even the 03-04 posted better 0-60 and identical 1/4 mile times to any STI. The 05's and up significantly increase the gap between the two. STI's are awesome cars, but they are by no means "better" than any Evo like your buddies suggest.

Thanks for everyones input.
I am defenitly not going to get an STI so dont worry about that.
Yes i do realize the 9 MR is way different than an 8 which is exactly why i need to go out and drive an 8 now.
The thing is, in a heart beat i would buy that MR i test drove, but as you all know, everything comes down to money. And an 8 looks like just about the only thing my budget can buy me(if im getting an evo that is)
Im really glad that i did get the opportunity because who knows, maybe in 6 months i will be able to get a IX MR. Only time will tell. But one thing is for sure, I AM GETTING AN EVO.
All my buddies arent saying not to get an evo. My friends are great drivers and know evos are the best (they drive GTI MKV, R32, Supercharged Mustang 06, M3 and an S4) so they know their stuff. Its random people who come up like "I heard your getting an EVO.....your an idiot.......get an STI.......youll crash a piece of s*** evo.....and so on." but they are dumb and dont know anything.
Thanks again
