Thats cool. I always wanted to try it but I don't like to ASSUME the dsm's and Evo's are going to react the same.

You have to be completely stopped. and I mean completely. Also the clutch has to be pushed to the floor.

So you cant be in neutral, just to test it?

Just sit at a complete stop, clutch in, have it in first gear and gas to the floor. If you are worried about moving while doing it, pull the handbrake..... but just don't slip the clutch and launch it while you still have the handbrake up lol.

I have a 03 Evo and I have had mine for about 9k and I have only lauched it about 5 times but only at the strip. My whole concern was that I have a Excedy Twin Plate clutch in it and Im worried about it putting to much stress on the transfer case.

I wasnt afraid at all...... even before i had the two step i was practicing my launching.... ( i guess it depends on how good of a driver you are to... if you know ur going to slip the crap out of your clutch or if you dont know how to luanch very well, then give it some pracitce)

I wouldnt recommend beating the crap out of it from day one... put some miles on it first..... get the feel of the AWD ( if ur not used to it)

but just remember :

It's all fun and games until you have to replace your clutch and center differntial!

( but then again... u can always upgrade to the Excedy twin and the Quaife LSD like me )

I'm at 27,000 and never did a true track launch. In all honesty, I just cannot afford to replace the clutch, or worse yet, the transfer case. Drag racing is really not my thing. Unless you're 100% that it's for you, I'd say save yourself the time and money. Do some road racing instead. Brakes and tires are cheaper!

Wasn't there some type of Rally-launch style talked about on Top Gear that took up all the slack in the driveline with the e-brake?

Not that I'm brave enough to try it, but that might be the only pseudo-safe way to light 'em up.

I don't see any point in launching on the street unless you're really into racing the guy next to you.

Well i would rather practice before taking it to the track and getting destroyed my a 15 second honda lol. So it would be just messing around.

You use the e-brake to "pre-load" the drivetrain. It makes the launch less stressful on the car because all the slack is gone.

Depress clutch pedal

Place car in gear

Pull e brake and hold button so you can release it when your ready to launch

Gently apply throttle

slightly release clutch till it just starts to grab but not till the car is moving (dont over ride the e-brake or you'll redlight)

Floor it if you have the 2 step otherwise attain launch RPM through throttle modulation.

Release clutch pedal and e-brake handle at the same time.

Takes practice... I'm not good at it but I have a friend that has to launch his Civic like that or there would be tranny parts all over the strip every other launch.

.

I was always told not to floor it even with the two step... just give it enough gas so that you get it to wherever you have your rpms set at ( for example mine is at 6,000 rpm).... I never floor it when launching....
